But being “boundary pushing” doesn’t make something popular necessarily. But I also do not agree with you that she pushed any boundaries. The sound is not that different from Billie’s other work
Yeah I think that is the part that is misleading not the graph. If all the programs for people living in poverty are not limiting who they accept based on race they are arguing for nothing. Do the thing we already do!
So then you agree with me that being an omnivore is the default - the natural diet for human beings. Sure I would agree with the claim that for some people in a first world country it is a choice to eat meat because you have the option to eat a vegan diet instead. But there are also other conditions that could make it not a choice (financial or medical). I think the morality question is different. Personally, I just don’t feel morally righteous about eating animals. I think it’s a part of our diet. Just like my cat also eats other creatures. Factory farming I don’t like and think that should stop. Where I live there are lots of farms mostly run by Mennonites. Lots of land for cattle to roam. I usually buy my meat from an independent grocery store that is also a butcher and their meat is ethically sourced. But I do also buy sometimes from the grocery store which I assume most are not unless labelled otherwise. I don’t see any problem with eating meat that is ethically sourced - from a morality perspective. But again that is a financial privilege for people to buy more expensive food. Which in Canada right now is not a luxury most people have right now, since our grocery stores are gouging us. Everyone has had to do with less. I can easily spend $300 for 2 weeks worth of food for 2 people. But just because I feel this way doesn’t mean that you have to feel the same way as me, from a moral standpoint.
I don’t really see how that makes it misleading. They are trying to say that 64% of the population living in poverty aren’t being serviced by these programs based on the colour of their skin. Are you okay to leave them behind? That said.. what I do find misleading is I didn’t see them talk about how many of these programs there are and how much money is being spent. Because they are making it sound like a big issue but I want to know how large of an issue it is, the one example they gave of the Raise program doesn’t seem like a poverty program to me… sounds like a business program. Which makes me question what types of programs they are taking about.
He can’t vote in the majority of the US: https://felonvoting.procon.org/state-felon-voting-laws/
But I am saying to you that it is natural behaviour to sometimes eat animal or their byproducts, basically all mammals do this at some point. You could die from eating a vegan diet without proper understanding of what types of vitamins you need. Vitamin B12 is necessary for us to function and it must be supplemented in a vegan diet. So I would say it is only a choice to not eat animal/animal byproducts in the context of living in a modern society that has technology to make this possible. Personally I’m already deficient in B12 because of a medical condition so idk how well I would fair on a vegan diet. I’m not questioning your moral choice of your diet, and you’re right that most of our food is modified (but that goes for everything not just meat). I think that at the base of it veganism is a choice and eating meat/animal byproducts is not. I would not say it is a choice to drink water for example. Maybe you could survive off of eating very water dense fruit as a water source, but you would probably still be dehydrated.
Idk about the sexism argument. I don’t think that really translates.
I just watched it and I agree. The point of the story I feel was that they wasted all of this time playing cat and mouse with each other when they could have spent that time together. The “moral” is you only have so much time with people and you never know when it will be cut short. His mother, Emma, etc. I feel in the end he has learned he needs to spend quality time with his daughter and make the rest of his time count. Not waste it away like he did in his youth. A very profoundly sad story. Cried many times
Oh okay loool. That’s dumb
So basically vegans date non-vegans with the hopes to convert them to veganism
Most people have a general understanding of what veganism is and may not want to change their lifestyle for a vegan partner. The person should have disclosed this earlier to them.
It is definitely something that will impact a relationship long-term. Vegans are morally attached to their ideology and will not compromise what they eat. So the other partner is required to compromise. Making 2 meals at home will be difficult after a while. Going out to meat-centric restaurants will be more difficult. All the couples I know that have a vegan in the relationship the non-vegan was willing to compromise for them. Basically eating vegan meals at home or becoming vegan themselves. This is a huge lifestyle change for some people that they would not compromise. I think being upfront is the way to go (like you are doing) but it doesn’t sound like this person was and wasted OPs time, since it is not something they are open to.
Almost every mammal on earth will eat other living creatures. This is not a belief system it is just nature. Animals that we label as herbivores will primarily eat only vegetation. But these animals will still consume bugs or small creatures (think rodents, cows will sometimes eat chicks, etc ) if given the opportunity or if they are desperate for food (depending on the species). Choosing to not eat meat for moral reasons is a belief system and movement so it’s termed veganism. Some cultures also have practices that are similar for moral reasons, but i think most are vegetarian and the practice is linked with religion. I don’t think there needs to be a dedicated term because humans are naturally omnivores so strict moral deviation from this can be termed. But it doesn’t mean that people that don’t subscribe to the ideology have one about what they eat. I don’t.
Honestly to me it just seems like Billie is young and makes off the cuff comments. Which I believe before she was praised for but now they are being used against her. Taylor just wants to stay on the top of the album billboard chart and would have released more variants to help her stay there no matter who was the competitor. And I read that other artists did the same thing… cuz you know business and profit
Her singles are more upbeat, I don’t think you could factually claim that Billie has many upbeat songs. I scrubbed through the album and they were mostly slow songs and the way Billie sings is very whisper-like. Your opinion can be the songs are more creative than Taylor’s but she does not create as many hits that have more mass appeal. Nothing wrong with that, but it will be harder for her to be #1 on the charts if that is what she is after. It will make her fan base more niche. Taylor is a very good business woman and knows that she needs to write hits that will catch the larger audience then writes the deeper-cuts for her more loyal fans. This is how Taylor has grown such a large and loyal fan base.
Edit: and i just checked the news, Taylor did not get knocked out of billboards #1 spot by Billie’s new album
Yep… I went back to school and became the best in my program. Partially because I worked very hard. The program is male dominated and I took some courses ahead because I had transfer credits for electives. Some of the guys in the year ahead would make comments that I tried so hard and that it wasn’t fair because it was easier for me somehow because I was also taking my years courses?? How?? Shouldn’t I have been worse off than them because I had less knowledge and experience?? I never comprised because I was in my late twenties. If I had been younger it might have been a different story. All I’m going to say is. My year had the most female graduates for the program I think ever… and the top 4 students when we graduated were all female, which includes me. I think all the young women needed was someone to help them feel supported and a sense of belonging. Taylor does this on a grand scale and it will have an impact. She doesn’t compromise to all the haters that say she works too hard or does too much. Why does a woman have a ceiling of working “too hard” but a man can work as hard as he wants and put out as many records as he wants. It really is an internalized sexist statement that Billie made (which like she’s 22 so I’m not like giving her grief about it, just this is what we are taught to believe). No one would ever make that comment about a male artist. Because men are supposed to be this successful.
Thanks this makes me feel better. Yep will get one of those tests to find out for sure
People really don’t understand how businesses work. They do not care about Billie’s feelings. They are just trying to keep their artists relevant and keep earning more profit. If Billie’s album is worth its salt then she shouldn’t be worried. This is the game that we all have to play. No one feels bad for the lesser no artists that release albums and don’t have the same successes.
She is probably jealous. A lot of these celebrities probably have very high egos. Billie is used to being on top. Tbh to me she has a few good songs but I don’t think I could listen to a whole album of hers. I think the problem for her is she has too many slow songs (and not all which are good imo) and not enough upbeat songs. Upbeat songs usually catch people’s attention and bring them into being interested in the rest of the album. She’s probably also scared she will loose relevancy if he albums start doing poorly. It is a business at the end of the day and she needs the attention to keep making music. And she did get attention from this comment. And it did get me to listen to the single from the album loool
I would add that it’s not just the lack of centric infrastructure (although I agree with you that there is a lack). It’s also that there is a cost to go to these places, which has now become too high for most people to become “regulars”. It’s just more cost efficient to spend $10 a month on Netflix vs going out almost every night to your local pub or any other activity. And public free spaces are few and far between
Yep and there are so many lyrics that point to a long term relationship. Like “your wife waters flowers, I want to kill her” assuming she is the wife who is ignoring what cheating the husband is doing, watering flowers like it’s all normal. She doesn’t like that person. And “now you’re in my backyard, turned into good neighbours” the relationship is tired and they are just neighbours now not lovers. Good neighbour is also a type fence that you can see through. So maybe she is involved in parts of his life but not all. These are all feelings that you can only have from a very long term relationship. I also wonder about the lines “for a fortnight there we were forever” like what does she mean by this. Did she just like the word fortnight? And is basically saying we were in love but now we are just going through the motions. Or does that reference how long Matty and her relationship was in that “honeymoon” phase before they reached the “tired” phase of their relationship.
It’s so interesting the arguments when people say Israel is not helping the Palestinians. They are trying to kill them! Would you help a murderer break into your home? I don’t think an opponent is ever expected to help the other side. Their allies are the ones expected to help give them aid. They don’t and I don’t fully understand the politics around why that doesn’t happen.
