Did you buy too much silnylon? Have a roll of grosgrain, extra zipper pulls, or a bag of insulation sitting around that you want to get rid off? Post it below and help someone else put it to use!

Reddit's ulgeartrade is very receptive to myogers trying to sell!

The Dynafit DNA 8 vest is an example, and one that is less like a backpack and maybe closer to a garment.

Are you looking to learn from them or trying to patent the concept? There are tons of examples out there. Early backpacks only used solid fabric. Some running vests use stretch fabrics or breathable solid fabrics and not spacer mesh.

I added some of this to a hip belt for a climbing pack a couple of years ago and it's been great.

This sounds great! Edit: i thought it had sold out, but maybe it was the opposite - came into stock after I had ordered (some colored zippers) a while back.

None that i know of. Stretching the fabrics in your hands might give you a qualitative sense, but tents are a notoriously difficult project for this reason.

I don't think this would be much of an issue for such a gradual curve, but it could be.

People have done it with varying degrees of success. The tricky part is that your tent fly fabric will have a different amount of stretch than your replacement fabric, and possibly in different dimensions. Many commercial tents use a PU coating, which generally decreases stretch compared to silpoly or especially silnylon. So if you try it, you might consider trying to find a low-stretch material or a material that matches the stretch of your fly. Bias stretch is one type of stretch you should evaluate, and you should orient your fabric panel templates on the fabric to accommodate it relative to how it's built into your tent fly.

TLDR: You can definitely give it a try, but stretch might cause it to not tighten evenly, sag, or ripple if you don't plan for it perfectly.

Did it have different sewn shelters, or different ways to pitch a tarp. There are a number of the latter out there.

Check out the post history of u/pto892 and you'll find a number of great tarp designs of varying difficulty.

Also, the pattern for the original tarp tent: https://www.tarptent.com/pcthike/tarptent/tarpdesign.html

I've used 200d nylon Oxford on a frameless UL pack and I know people have used hex70, which is a PU coated 70d polyester, for a pack body and used it on a thru hike. I've gotten over 300 miles out of mine, but the pu coating is wearing off inside of the bottom. I think that'll be true of the rbc as well. Not as durable, rigid, or waterproof as ecopak.

How was the pattern? Would you do anything differently?

I used that nifco sternum strap on a backpack and I really like it. It's very functional - it holds strong, but it clips and releases really easily. It makes for a nice user experience. Duraflex nulite buckles, for example, are extremely solid and give a satisfying click, but can be kind of difficult to release, to the extent it's lightly painful or uncomfortable to squeeze them. Duraflex does have lots of other nice options though. Woojin look cool and are light weight, but they break the easiest, are the least solid, and come apart if you pull hard.

No I'm genuinely curious if you have info to add, because it seems like you've done some research and I'd like to add it to the post.

Have you tried or looked into the sil-specific tapes?

And to be honest when I read your first post, I misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you were asking about sil or PU, not the mix, so I'm sorry for pointing you the wrong direction.

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone trying to fully seal a sil/pu coating with tape. I'd welcome any info you have to contribute. My understanding is that there are no tapes specific to sil/pu mixes, and seamgrip sealant is the only option. Do you have any info to add, or just unhappy with the availability of info?

Check out 3M 9485. It's a transfer tape you can use to make a one-sided seam sealing tape. If you search the sub for seam tape you'll find a post I made with a bunch of info on tapes.

Does it have to be heat press?

I think one reason is because RBTR changed their 1.1 silpoly XL material. It used to be just like the standard 1.1, at 1.25 osy finished, but a couple eyars ago they increased the coating so the finished weight is 1.75 osy. So that's a 40% increase on the tarp alone, before adding doors and netting.

Yeah that's kind of where I'm at too. Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that style, just the wire hook style that goes over the handle bars.

What's your plan for stem spacers? The one I made sits pretty far from the stem and it seems impractical to have 2-3 inches of foam spacers between the bag and stem to keep it upright and off the cables if it's weighed down.

Really nice job balancing material weights, hardware, colors, and textures! The components give it a quality feel. That's a nice looking and probably well-functioning pack!
