Maquoketa Caves is the single coolest place you can visit in Iowa. I don’t think I’ve seen anything better in this state.

It’s very much something that gets argued by many artists. It’s a fact that some artists will not tattoo you if you use numbing cream. Some say it makes the skin feel more spongy. Others say it blocks ink going into the dermis. It also is dependent on what numbing cream you use. Just because your artist says it’s okay.. doesn’t mean all artists are okay with it with many saying not to use it. So, coming in here and saying to use it is not a good idea because you don’t know his artist.
Numbing cream isn’t recommended by many artists.. and some won’t even tattoo you if they know you used it. It changes the texture of the skin. Also, your body absorbs it which means it goes into the dermis which also means less ink in that is able to be filled in the dermis - My tattoo artist 22 years experience

Oh man.. it’s my favorite. It’s just so surprising that Iowa has this place. The forest that surrounds the caves is so lush and green.. and there are 13 caves in this forest among other natural structures. Bring a flashlight and then also bring a helmet and old clothes if you decide to get extreme.. some have army crawling. Most you can just walk through though.
