Maybe but I've heard Mazulla cite the same advanced stats available to anyone

Just the idea of comparing it to poker or other games of chance doesn't follow. Because the shot making of every player varies widely. You could somehow devise a model to compare similar players' shot expectancies to one another but I've never heard that discussed. Not saying it isn't. But Mazulla is pretty famous for saying THE most important stat int he NBA is 3pa. Not makes, or percentage, but attempts. That to me implies a very broad use of expected points.

It works for the Celtics because they also shoot a high percentage. Obviously he is aware of that, but on a single-game or single-quarter scenario you can't necessarily apply those large-n models because they can get lost in all the other variance at play in an individual situation. Over the course of months or a season yes it makes more sense. But the smaller the granularity the less sense it makes. So it's odd to hear him make a quote like that when talking about individual games. To me it is taking the expected stats and misapplying them.

What do you think makes a team better...the players on the team lol.

Again I still don't understand what this has to do with the 2024 Celtics other than you are a Celtics hater lol

Again I understand what he means but you re talking about large-n datasets that don't consider player talent with outcomes of individual games or shots. It's not necessarily good practice to apply all large-n expected outcomes to every individual situation.

I kind of get what he's saying but I'd argue it's pretty much a circular argument, because what determine what is a good shot is what historically goes in. One is directly dependent on the other. And it also kind of ignores differential in skill and ability in shot taking and shot making.

My man the Celtics were considered the best team in the east for 3, maybe 4 years, from 2007 to 2011. Then they clearly got old and the Heat team came together. At no point did anyone consider them better than the Heatles except maybe the first year those guys were together. And at no point were they competing with the Cavs when LeBron went back there. Yes they gave them a run once or twice but they did it as underdogs.

And the 2024 team is better than any of those teams anyway.

Just write "no longer at this address" and put it back in your mailbox with the flag up. It will be returned to sender and most of the time the issue will be fixed. This is my experience having moved a number of times and getting prev resident mail.

No because even bums in the NBA were all-conference and all-american in college.
