My son was 6 when I started my path toward CPA. He turns 13 this fall. I'm a single mom and work full time. I just took my 4th exam on 6/20 and am waiting for the score end of this month.
I just saw an old picture where I took him to the library with me to study and had brought a model figurine to assemble to keep him busy back in 2019, I think it was, and asked him if he remembered those days. He said "yeah, good days." One of my very earliest memories is sitting in the library of the community college with my mom while she took a test. I couldn't have been older than 3. I feel lots of feels about sharing a similar memory with my son.
It took me a while. I started with 3 credits from AP US History in high school. I dropped out twice. Some terms I blew through 11 courses at top speed, sometimes I didn't even do the minimum. But I did eventually finish. It did get a lot easier when my son got older and was more independent. But it's doable. Just keeping putting one foot in front of the other, get creative with finding ways to study (my mom used to read textbooks to me for bedtime stories), and treat yourself with grace.
I added a few of them for I think 2 months out? I wanted to collect events/meetups from several sources in one place, you know? So someone who is looking for something to do or something new has one place to look to potentially find several different things that may interest them instead of having to think of different places to look.
One big thing for me is that I don't want to have to drink alcohol or be in a bar every single time I want to socialize... but I do sometimes! But sometimes it feels like alcohol is an expected ingredient in adult socialization. I like having options. And I can't be the only one.
I also want to look for volunteering opportunities and donation drives. I think a lot of people may be interested but not know where to start for donating their skills/services, what to make, and where to send it. So I want to throw that into the mix, too. Also, if I get a few subscribers, it helps amplify spreading the message for that event.
I want a centralized location for a variety of activities at several locations around Loudoun, Fairfax, and Prince William counties at least.

I put together a "crafting calendar" on Google Calendar to share. I'm hoping to get mostly knitting/crochet meet ups all over NOVA. I'm in Loudoun, so it will likely primarily be Loudoun, but I'll try to expand. The idea is that you can search "Ashburn" or whatever and find some events near you. If we're all looking at the same events, we should start running into each other, too!

Someone also mentioned that they go to the Common Threads events at their local library, those are monthly, too. One is next week in Brambleton. I won't be able to make it to that one (Loudoun Education Foundation Fuel/ED meal bagging even if anyone would like to go!!), but I plan to meet a friend at the August one. And it looks like all of the libraries host one if Brambleton isn't convenient.

UWorld and Ninja have built in Excel similar to the exam, UWorld more similar than Ninja. I’m sure Becker and the others do, too. It isn’t ideal, but it isn’t the worst. May not be worth paying extra
You have a basic calculator for the exam. And a basic calculator built into the exam, which the prep materials do, too. So don’t get a fancy one to learn how to use that you won’t be able to.
I don’t have a lot of feedback for the other parts. I started studying the day after I finished my masters. I pushed through all 4 exams in 6 months. Waiting on FAR now, so we’ll see how it goes. I planned around the testing windows so I did two core exams in the first window, my discipline in the second discipline window, and my last core in the window that just closed. I’d planned to do TCP so I did AUD and then REG. Then changed my mind and did ISC. I had about 6-7 weeks for each. I don’t really regret the order? I am glad I did AUD before ISC. I think doing REG was a good idea since I was on the fence and it helped me choose my discipline based on which one I was more comfortable with. All I did was study. All of the time. Work, study, sleep. Parent a little in my free time. It’s possible. It sucks. But it’s probably possible.
saaaaaaaame. Relaxing, recharging, picking up the pieces of my life again. If I find out I have to retake FAR, then at least I'll be approaching it fresh and not still completely fried from cramming all of the exams in 6 months.

I did that but I changed my mind and switched to ISC after REG.
I think the MCQs were pretty straight forward but then those SIMs are where they reminded you it’s the AUD discipline. I feel you, there. Some of mine were tricky for sure.
And there were 3 things I know I did not see in Ninja or UWorld or anywhere else I looked while studying. One I was able to figure out, one I know I got wrong, and I am pretty sure I got the third wrong but it was in a SIM and I can’t remember well enough to say for sure.
I got a 94, too!! It was the only exam I walked out of feeling confident, I can't believe the confidence was that justified. After seeing the 50% pass rate in Q1 I was really worried that I was so wildly off base that I didn't realize how badly I'd done!
I read most of the Ninja book and did just shy of all of their MCQ.
I watched the videos on UWorld and a few other free lectures I could find on YouTube like Farhat's (he is very thorough, said himself he assumes the viewer knows nothing on the concept, and he goes through everything). Some of last year's BEC materials on Ninja, too.
I just found out I passed. I do think Ninja text and MCQ are likely enough to pass this one. Just look for additional materials if the text isn't making sense for you on a topic.
It depends on your familiarity with the topic. I did ISC in about 5 weeks, but I wasn't able to study consistently. I think a solid 2 weeks of that 5 was wasted. I generally studied the same schedule you've listed when life wasn't distracting me.
AUD was my first exam, ISC my third (I'd originally planned to do REG and then TCP but changed to ISC). I think having taken AUD first helped a lot because you're more prepared to apply the IT controls to auditing concepts. If you haven't taken AUD, I think you'll be fighting more of an uphill battle. Especially on the SIMS. The MCQ were more about vocabulary but then the SIMs were about applying those IT terms to audit scenarios.
The IT concepts are not exceptionally complicated and if you're comfortable with computers it's pretty easy to pick up. You don't need to know how to code or anything like that, but you need to know the basic anatomy of computers and a network and how the data moves through it. Not even how a network switch actually works but what it does.
The frameworks may be tricky to pin down. They aren't very complicated but they can blur together. It's kind of like figuring out the assertions in AUD and understanding which ones apply to which types of accounts. Not exceptionally difficult to understand, but can feel like a lot to be able to recall.
Fortunately, most of it makes sense if you understand the concepts so you won't have to rely heavily on memorization. So. If you recognize vocabulary words and things are clicking as you start to study, yeah, 20 days is doable. If you aren't familiar at all with IT and/or audit concepts, maybe not.
It happened to me at Starbucks one morning and my brain hadn’t finished booting up yet, you know? So I said thank you and drove off confused. Which I now understand most drive thru works appreciate, ending the chain. But I felt like a dick at the time once I processed it.
I get ISC on Friday and then I’m just waiting on FAR. What if I’m done? I don’t think I am, I think I’ll need to retake FAR. But what I don’t and I am done????? Just waiting for 7/31 as patiently as I can.
On the drive home from REG I realized that I'd done something real stupid in accounting for business expenses for a sole proprietorship on a tax return SIM and messed up EVERY number after it as a result. Whole thing had to have been jacked up. And I don't remember exactly beyond that specific thing anymore, but I know I didn't feel good about the SIMs at all.
Got a goddamned 86. Have no idea how.
I'm really proud of myself because I have only been checking twice a day to see if NASBA has tweeted anything about it. And checking the portal only once a day just in case.
FUCK that test up!! Go so hard it's walkin funny for a few days after! They gonna have to close the test window a little longer than planned after the work you gon do.
