Go with a dust extractor. It’s one tool he will use for every job and is super quiet. You don’t realize how loud your shop vac is until you get a festool or fein vac.
Man that just upsets me beyond belief. I hate when one person just ruins a company like that. I know generally once something is set up overseas and a US plant is shutdown it rarely reopens. I hope one day that tools will come back to the US. I think that’s why it’s important to support the smaller newer US based tool companies who are just getting started.
Dang, you are right about that. I don’t know why I thought Stanley owned them.
Honestly with what it costs for labor on any project estimate now a days, buying a new tool to get the job done yourself will never be an issue. Just got a two quotes recently, one for replacing the tile in my kitchen with hardwoods and another for our upstairs bathroom remodel. Both places were asking well over $2000 for the demo work alone. I told both places that I would do the demo and they could do the rest. Saving $4000 and spending a couple hundred on tools and demo bags is a no brainer.
I have essentially everything I need already, but if I needed to rent a rotary hammer or something my wife wouldn’t care with the savings we are getting. I’m a knowledgeable person, but I have a day job. So I’ll get everything ready for them to install over a weekend and will let them do the main work.
Yea it’s always fun to explain why I have 2 or 3 of the same pair of pliers. “Well if I lose a pair then I have a back up pair, but I also want to make sure I have a backup pair for that pair in case I lose them too!”
That was my thought on choosing the 6 point with the Macs, but I learned that they aren’t made in the USA anymore. So they might be nixed just for that reason. Plus I’ve seen a lot of good stuff about the wrights and everyone on here is suggesting going with them.
I love weras screwdrivers, but am not a fan of their joker line. I think the metal is too soft
Funny you mentioned both of those channels. I spent several hours the other day watching their wrench tests and settled on these two brands because of them. But I am leaning more into the weight tools due to the price and project farm’s testing of them
That’s actually really good to know. I doubt many people have owned both and I’m getting a lot of votes for the Wright set so far.
Thanks I appreciate it. Buying American made tools is something that I’m passionate about. I do have a lot of German made stuff, but if it’s not made in Germany then it’s made in the USA. Obviously, there are certain tools that you just can’t find MIUSA, but I try to get anything that I can. Ive found that estate sales are great places to look for stuff since they are mainly the greatest generation’s tools and were all MIUSA back then.
I’m not too worried about the slight marring that the wrenches leave behind. Especially if it means the bolt is going to turn and not strip. Icon does have some good offerings and I have a couple of there things.
I miss Armstrong tools. Stanley messed up on that one and I won’t let it go.
Wait for real!? I didn’t know Mac’s stuff was overseas now. Made in USA is important to me because I have a feeling one day very little will be made here and I don’t want to say “dang I should have gotten that set back when they were easy to get!”
For me as long as I can justify it to a degree she doesn’t care. If it is more than $300 she’d rather we talk about it since it is a financial decision we should think about, but I’ll usually just say to make it a birthday/anniversary/christmas gift and tell her not to get me anything when the time comes around. But for the most part, as long as I keep fixing things around the house and don’t waste money on contractors, the tools can continue to be bought without much issue.
I’m impressed there is no side to side with that drop. Crazy smooth. They must have polished something prior to assembly on that guy. I glad Spyderco still takes pride in their knives without increasing prices to ridiculous number like some manufacturers…cough….benchmade…cough
Love finding old US made files at estate sales. More and more tool makers are either closing doors or moving production to other countries.
Nice EK! Not many people know about these from back in the day. Is it a Richmond, VA made one?
I’m going to try and pick one up at blade show this year in Atlanta
Yea after a month of constantly moving them in my backyard when they marked power lines, I just yanked them out and tossed them in the trash. No one has said a thing since and it’s been 6 months. They can always have one of there guys come back and remark if they really need it to be done. Takes them about 30 mins to do.
I have a whirlpool wtw7300dw0 which has the same assembly as the Maytag OP has. I was washing clothes last night and when the washer was suppose to start the spin cycle, a strange loud clicking noise was coming from underneath the washer. The center agitator would move several inches in both directions, but the outer drum wouldn’t begin to spin like it should. Then it would pause and try again with the same noise. I paused the cycle and opened the lid and began diagnosing the issue. I removed the clothing, turned the washer off and then back on and closed the lid. I put it in spin and rinse mode (without the rinse) to see if it made the noise again and it did the same thing. Agitator would begin to move and begin clicking but the drum wouldn’t move but an inch.
I removed the agitator wash plate to see if anything was stripped out, but it looked good (even though it was a pain in the butt to get off).
Then I tipped the washer back against the wall and engaged the spin cycle again. The clicking noise was coming from the area that the stator and motor assembly was. I unplugged the washer and pulled the stator off. The stator wasn’t cracked at all and look to be in good shape. The main bearing looked to be in good shape. I pulled the retaining ring and spring out and looked at the clutch slider gear. The black metal ring (assuming it’s a magnet of some sort) was not even on the plastic molded gear assembly that it was attached to and the plastic molded piece was cracked in several places. I ordered a new part from Amazon and am hoping this will fix the issue. I will update with my results in case anyone else has a similar issue in the future.
My favorite thing to look at when I went to Toys R Us as a kid was the massive GI Joe collection. They had every GI Joe and accessory you could think of. No other store carried them.
Very nice haul. I found a brand new in box full set of Irwin bits at an estate sale once. Only cost me $20 too. I gave them to my father in law as a gift since he does more traditional woodworking than I do.
Thank for the recommendation. I’ll check them out. I heard recently that Vaughn hammers were going out of business. Another large US tool maker going under. I’m glad smaller companies are popping up
Which combination wrench set should I get?
