You definitely don’t need 6 weeks for Midsummer- it’s pretty fast. I had kids write sonnets at the end and found that to be very fun. Night is wonderful & a great opportunity to dive into some Holocaust stuff. I think it’s also a great time for reflection writing & response. I definitely recommend shying away from comprehension. The USHMM website is fantastic. I’ve never taught The Odyssey, but I’ve heard the graphic novel is a great companion. Fahrenheit is great for symbolism, especially if students will get more American lit in 11th grade.

Did not hate it!

I was induced because of high blood pressure. After 24 hours of no progress & a ton of variations in my son’s heartbeat, a whole crew came in and said “c-section.” I already had an epidural, so they just upped it a bit. I felt fine during & was happy to have a safe, healthy baby. Recovery was easier than I expected, but I did have a surgery 10 years earlier that was very similar to a c-section (had an ovary & cyst removed). I had bad headaches for a couple of weeks postpartum, but I think that was more epidural than anything. I will happily schedule a c-section for the my next baby, if I am lucky enough to get pregnant with one 😊.

I made that Halal Cart Chicken and Rice recipe last week; it was so good. Especially the rice and the white sauce. Reheated super well too!

Oo I love the idea of Salad Bar night!

Sunday: We tried Smitten Kitten’s Turkey Meatloaf and it was good! Paired it with green beans & beer bread (yum!)

Monday: BBQ Black Bean Tortilla Pizzas. This recipe comes from someone here, and it is delicious. I’m currently cooking chicken thighs, so the chicken can be ready tomorrow.

Tuesday: My last day of school! I will not be cooking dinner, but I am making these for a gathering.

Wednesday: Baked tortellini with Alfredo sauce instead of red sauce

Thursday: Buffalo Chicken Meatballs & Broccoli

Friday- Out

Sat & Sunday we will be at my parents’ lake house. It’s new to all of us as of August of last year, so I’m looking forward to finding some “lake house favorite” recipes.

Teacher here too! We are done Tuesday!! I looove Instant Pot Spaghetti.

Ooo that looks SO good! Thanks!

I’m feeling myself this evening because our dinner tonight was a home run!

Sunday: Caro Chambers’s Fish and Chips I used chicken breasts instead of fish, and WOW this was so good.

Monday: One Pot Cajun Pasta

Tuesday: Honey Pork Tacos Shoutout to whoever shared those from here!

Wednesday: Caro Chambers’s Cuban sliders (they’re a reel on her IG)

Thursday: Roasted creamy garlic chicken in the air fryer (another IG recipe).

Friday & Saturday- Takeout/eat out/ something from the fridge

Those chopped cheeseburgers look delicious!

What was your verdict on the puff pastry wrapped tenderloin?!

Oh man that halal cart chicken and rice looks SOO good! Ive been loving boneless chicken thighs and will definitely be making it soon.

Just took my three nephews there last night. They have these great kid caddies that have cards, crayons & paper, matching games, and blocks to build. They also have make your own desserts included in the kids meals (cookie or ice cream sundae).

Yes! I told my husband we need to go get custard there.

Our family switched a few months back because we could get new phones & our bills are cheaper. Both of my sisters live in the 54th & Blondo area & haven’t had any issues except for one day where they was an outage (only affected one sister). AT&T uses a lot of Verizon’s towers now. I’d say that it’s been worth the switch so far!

I’m about half way in. I love the friendship too! Just the worlds she creates are so wonderful!

lol well we go back like the second week in August. But yes, right now it feels good. And thanks! I got a rec from here for their Thai meatballs and love those, so I will definitely check out the bbq ones. Hope your six weeks goes fast!

I like Caro Chambers’ recipes too! Those basil beef bowls you are making this week are SO good

I love Pinch of Yum, HowSweetEats, SkinnyTaste, Defined Dish, and save a ton of instagram cooking reels. Caro Chambers is another favorite, although I haven’t paid to subscribe yet.

I am feeling super uninspired this week. I’m a teacher & we have like 3 weeks left of school, so I’m not surprised at my lack of motivation. When this happens to me, I tend to go back to our favorites.

Tonight: Chicken Florentine

Monday: Butter cauliflower & chickpeas

Tuesday: Crispy Poblano Tacos

Wednesday: Sheet pan chicken shawarma Shoutout to someone in this group who shared this recipe. It is SO good.

Thursday: Ground Beef Stroganoff

Friday & Saturday- Leftovers/out

You’d have to find a school willing to be flexible with you, but it’s not impossible. I have endorsements in English and History, and I taught both one year when our middle school was at capacity (a new middle school opened the next year). They created a half team where I taught the same students two subjects a day. I definitely think you could bring it up in an interview and see if they are open to it. Especially if you were willing to teach Art as your “extra duty.” At my school, most teachers teach five classes in a seven period day and then have an extra duty like study hall or lunch duty. But sometimes teachers teach another class instead of having a duty. You could also get a Biology job & then move to art in your school/district when there’s an opening, if that’s what you want.

Hey! So I actually already filled that survey out. Will it skew results if I do it twice? I was only thinking about the longer works I teach & you had all of them listed already.

I taught middle school for 7 years and am now completing year 5 in high school. The biggest difference for me is behavior management. In middle school, I often found that their behaviors would impede my ability to teach. In high school, they tend to (mostly) only get in the way of their own learning (phones, apathy, attendance). Grades do matter more, but I haven’t felt pressured to pass kids who shouldn’t pass (I should say that I don’t teach seniors). As others have mentioned, I really enjoy the life stuff I get to talk to my kids about. I teach all juniors now, & it’s a big year to get a job and start thinking about their futures. Plus—if your district is small enough-- you might have some repeat kids! I find that to be pretty enjoyable. Also being a part of a high school is really fun- all of the sports & activities going on & the yearly traditions. Regardless, change is scary but it can be energizing! And you can always change back :)

I’ve taught The Crucible & 12 Angry Men. Both tend to be hits with students. Trifles is a short one that I’ve taught in a couple of days.

That puff pastry wrapped pork tenderloin recipe looks 😍😍. You’ll have to report back about how it goes! Happy early birthday!
