I love the look of this red/white tile and the contrasting deck chairs. Good choice! And,...bonus...you look adorable floating in your swim ring!! The one thing that bothers me is that the floor lights are uneven. But that's just my symmetrical nature showing itself!!
I ran into the shading issue when I made a pool on my island. The problem, for me, was not enough design spots to accommodate the various parts that made the pool look real.
The other night, I (my character) was walking down the sidewalk next to these 4 trees (hardwoods). It was dark and there was a bug on the back most tree in the shadows. I couldn't see it, but I knew something was there. I situated my character in position, with net up, to possibly swipe from the side of the tree and let the net go. I caught it! It was golden stag!!!! That was pretty surprising!! I thought they only spawned on palm trees!!

HE's just annoying. #1. HE's annoying. #2. He doesn't know what you have, so he gives you any dumb thing he wants, so he's annoying. #3. He doesn't know what's "expensive" or "less expensive" so he gives you whatever dumb thing he wants, so he's annoying. BOTTOM LINE: Just avoid contact with him entirely!!!
