For the homeless & former homelessIf, if you could plan being homeless, how would you prepare?

If you knew in a few weeks you would be homeless how did you prepare for this? Also if you just become homeless without warning, how would you of prepared if you had a few weeks notice?

Yeah I live in the UK. Hoping to go away to Scotland, Wales or Peaks. Get the wife to drop me off at one point then pick me up 2/3 days later at a different point. This the only way I can make it like a true need to survive.

DIY survival tin idea

I want to make up a few little survival tins rather than just buying a pre-made kit.

My first one is a fire starter kit. In this kit - Kindle, lighter, matches, fire starter, flint rod, petroleum jelly.. Should I add anything else?

Next is cordage & Random things. In this kit - Cordage, fishing wire, hooks, tape. Should I add anything else?

Finally what other tins/bags should I create? What type of small resealable & usable bags are best? For any bigger items.

Chilli oil recommendationsQuestion

I'm aware Japan doesn't use hot sauce but rather uses chilli oil. I'm still trying to increase my spice tolerance so the hottest sauce for me is Valentina at around 900 scoville.

So my question is to ask for a chilli oil recommendation that's mild. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Miso & Dashi ratio helpQuestion

I've got some miso soup paste/powder & dashi stock powder. I'm aware when making miso it's recommended to add dashi stock. Now do I make the dashi stock based on the instructions and if this makes 250ml worth, do I then just add the miso paste/powder to the dashi stock? Or do I make the miso and add a little dashi powder? Or dashi stock liquid?

I'm just confused how to use the dashi powder & miso powder?

Help me use ice cream to make ice creamQuestion

I've got some chocolate mint ice cream. I want to blend a protein cookie into it & 200ml of whole milk protein. Then freeze it again. Will it turn back into ice cream? Or do I need to do something special?

Hopefully eat it all before it goes rancid. However in the UK we have back bacon, so it's very lean.

Planting outside questionsDiscussion

I've got auto-flowering super lemon haze. I don't grow & picked up these seeds free at an event. Could I just drop a seed in the ground and forget about it if we get some rainy days, or at least water it if not.

Would it grow? Or do you need special soil, feed & light schedule?

How did the bacon come out? Bendy and chewy? Or crisp? Was it thick cut? I read/watched that thick cut is better. Also did you flavor it?

First time dehydrating. Wanting to make bacon jerky.

I've got some smoked bacon and want to make bacon jerky. I also have sweet baby rays BBQ. So I was planning of brushing the bacon with BBQ sauce, should I add anymore flavors to the sauce? Also what temperature & how long do I dehydrate for?

Airfryer (Ninja 15-1) & pork belly cooking helpQuestion

I've just marinated some pork belly cubes in Char Siu seasoning. I'm going to cook it in my new airfryer (Never used a airfryer)..

I want to cook it like poor man's burnt ends. Could you advise the best way to cook the pork cubes in the airfryer? Or any other way it's a Ninja Foodi XL 15-1.

Once the pork is cooked, how long will they keep in the fridge? Can they be frozen? What's the best way to re-heat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wanting to learn more, where should I start?Discussion

I've always had an interest in Samurai. Watched a few movies, but want to learn more. Could you please recommend some history books I should read? Documentaries I should watch? Please link me if they are on YouTube. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

New to Bushcraft and rucksack camping, need help.

When I do something new I like to try do things with DIY setups.

I'm planning on doing a random walk and sleep in the Woodlands. I'll just have a rucksack, currently I just have a small 2 man tent, little gas stove, sleeping bag & warm/waterproofs clothes.

So the questions below will help with my first trip and help me learn more about what I need. I'll only be sleeping out for 2 nights.

Survival kits, are they worth it? I thought buying 1 kit would do, then I just replace a few items. However some kits have different things in to other kits. So what's a must and what's not? In a survival kit?

If you made a DIY survival kit, what are your key items? Items you won't camp without?

You can send a link to a kit if you feel it's good enough for a beginner.

Now food, what food do you take? Do you make your own? Do you buy MRE's or Camping meals? Or do you buy rice? Tuna? Anything in a bag?

Any help any way would be appreciated.

Rough camping I class as no electric items other than a torch & phone. Only gas cooker, wood & lighter for fire.

Temperature between - 12c (53f) & 5c (41f). It's a Woodlands area, mud and grass ground. Also a field are.

New to rough camping and want a little helpLearning Survival

When I do something new I like to try do things my own way.

I have spoke with land owners and I've got a few spots to start with, one is an open field with a little wood area that takes 8 minutes to walk end to end. The other area is Woodlands and hills. Both have a little river/stream going through with trout/rainbow fish.

My first few times I'll be staying 3 days & 2 nights. I've got a 2 man tent and a gas stove.

So the questions below can help with my first trip or you can provide details for when I start doing 5 & 7 nights camping.

New to Dehydration & want to do garlic

I've got a few garlic builds and want to dehydrate they in my new machine. However I cannot blend them as they always stick to the side and I get big chunks. I cannot blend in oil as heard you cannot dehydrate in oil. So I was wondering if I could blend the garlic in water, drain that off then dehydrate? What's the best way to crush & dehydrate garlic?
