Hi all,

I need to rollover 200K of my former employer's 401K. There's a split of traditional and roth 401K in my account to rollover.

Here's my confusion on what to do with the rollover, I am a high income earner therefore my wife and I cannot contribute to a Roth IRA and any Traditional IRA contributions are not tax deductible. I would like to start taking advantage of doing backdoor Roth IRA contributions, but my problem is I already have 400K existing in my traditional IRA account (and about 100K in a Roth IRA).

So two questions:

1) Given my existing Traditional and Roth IRA accounts, what can I do with my former employer's 401K plan that has traditional 401k and Roth 401k? Do I move the traditional 401k into traditional IRA and the Roth 401k to Roth 401k? Or does it all have to go into Traditional IRA?

2) Can I, and should I, move any of the existing Traditional IRA to my Roth IRA so I can start backdooring into the Roth IRA in the future?

Am I screwed on all of this without consulting a CPA? lol. Thanks for any advice all!
