“My Leather so Soft” 🎶🎼🎵🎤

Jeru is my preference over Hov, but Jay’s superior business mentality made it easier for him to push himself in the market to gain popularity. Hov is slightly overrated as a MC in my opinion but VERY underrated as a businessman. He knew how to market himself in the industry and be at the right place at the right time. Combine that with the fact that his pen is actually nice and you get great rapper whose legacy is bigger than he prolly should’ve been. That’s how we ended up with an artist who’s bottom half of the top 10 at best, constantly getting pushed into the Mount Rushmore conversation. Not saying Jay Z isn’t great, but his smart business moves are the reason he’s at the top more than his rapping. And let’s not forget who his wife is. He also has a “beehive” behind him so his album sales will never tank. Even if you know, there are better rappers out there, he’ll always stay at the top of the food chain.

Hate it or not, this answer is Jay Z. Personally my fav from this era would be Juvenile, but he didn’t peak until early 00s. Same with Jada. Kiss was active but didn’t seriously blow up until after leaving bad boy. So Hov is the answer

Correction from that. For got to edit. Album was recorded but not released. Had he died, the videos and single releases that made that album what it was wouldn’t have happened and that might’ve done more hard that good. When I said no Dear mama, no etc., I referring to single releases

Yes, it was recorded, but the live performances and videos he put out with the iconic songs that became classics like: Dear Mama, So Many Tears, Me Against the World, definitely played a part in the growth of the album and the building of his legacy. If he dies in 94, his popularity ceiling would be something similar to Juice World or Pop Smoke.

No, had he died in 94, Don Killuminati, Me Against the World and All Eyes on Me would’ve been released. That means no “Hail Mary, no Dear Mama, no Cali Love, no Ambitionz of a Ridah. His legacy wou be missing a ton of hits

Exactly. If you’re making a female character for GTA V and Call of Duty operators, what’s the big deal? Literally always been female leads in games. One of my favorite characters all time is Blaze from Streets of Rage… on SEGA GENESIS! It’s been going on FOREVER. 😂

Tons of players create a female player all the time (see Valhalla, COD, Fortnite, etc. for recent proof) and there’s always been female characters who have beed badass: (Insert Lara Croft and Aloy, here) so why the hate now??

There’s truth to that but flow doesn’t mean you’re a good rapper. Your delivery, your storytelling ability, now that ladies are paying attention your swag (LL), the creativity in your bars, your ability to talk about current events and insightful subject matter to keep your audience engaged…. It all plays a part. If flow was the end all be all…… Rich Homie and Designer both had a crazy flow, but where are they now? Everything else is as equally important to stay relevant 🤷🏾‍♂️

To each his own Homie. Nothing wrong with having a favorite. KRS was definitely dope, but I got respect for all of them.

Of course I’m just messing around, but it’s kind of accurate tho 🤣

Honestly everybody. Rick is the Godfather storyteller, Rakim invented the flow, LL pulled in the ladies, KRS and his focus on social issues laid the foundation for conscious rap. They all brought sumn different to game that’s still felt today. Can’t really measure one’s impact over the rest 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’m not missing the Whitney concert, BUT I’m sneaking in the back for Sade & Toni. I done grew up, graduated high school, served in the military, got married, had and raised kids, got divorced and got another girlfriend and To this DAY, I still got a crush, “Short hair” Toni Braxton 😂😂😂

As a hating mocha dude 😂 I call this the “Y’all Had a Good Run” sexy 🤣. They lost movies once Denzel, Eddie and Wesley blew up late 80s - early 90s. Was hang on good In music tho… until that Tyrese Coke commercial lmmfao

Definitely a good one. But Freeway didn’t do music in the 90s. He debuted on the “Dynasty” album that dropped in 00. Automatic DQ 🤷🏾‍♂️

Since this is a 90s thread, rappers like 50 & Freddie Gibbs are automatically disqualified. So with that said, I’m going Fat Joe or Foxy 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Born sinner, Forest Hill Dr., KOD, off-season, 4 your eyes only, just close your eyes and pick one, lol. But that LA leakers freestyle was crazy. That man said:

“No Bill, Cosby shit, but if N**s is sleeping, then f*k em” 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve been banging that “Kant Nobody” hard recently. Swizz Beatz do this thing on that one.

“ All I need is a beat and a DMX sample.”

But I think “Oh No” from Carter II is probably my favorite. It’s between that and “Leather So Soft” from the “Like Father Like Son” album wit Birdman’s non rapping azz 😂

The big 3 ain’t really about sales or writing your own bar’s really. He’s in the conversation because no other rapper from their generation is bigger from a popularity perspective than Dot, Cole, and Aubrey.

As someone who’s has been a fan of all 3 (not really Drake since “Nothing Was the Same” album but you get it lol), I was able to watch the beef unfold without bias. Drake still gets support from the culture from what I saw. A lot of “pretty boys” and a lot of girls (not in Cali 😂 ) still rock with Drake. So it not the entire “culture “ that disrespects him. His tours might not be super successful or safe west of Boise lmfao, but he still got support.

Got busy and missed the last couple letters 😂. I’m loving the E. Sermon, Easy, and 40 shoutouts, but if we’re truly being unbiased, no rapper under E is over the “ white boy”. Em should take this one.

Depends on how you look at it. J Cole and Master P both have time in pro ball although Cole was overseas. But with an MVP, 4 chips, A platinum and a Gold album, Shaq is definitely the most accomplished at both. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Man…. Before my time ( I’m under 40) but Super Fly is a top 5 soundtrack for me. Huge fan of Curtis 😤
