He runs Cathedral Mountain Guides in NH.
He climbs in Red Rocks and elsewhere out west in the fall/spring seasons and spends winter guiding ice and summer guiding rock in NH.
Nah. Grew up driving a manual. I’ll occasionally end up with a manual when traveling in some parts of the world and it always reminds me how awful they are.
I mean it’s a bit like riding a horse when you have self driving cars but hey, to each their own.
Hahaha! Yes, Rock Climbs of Acadia by Grant Simmons.
I know Grant really well! I’ve climbed with him before.
No, No, and No.
I don’t see the point of a manual transmission but then we all do plenty of pointless things.
CrossFit — trying to better my times and lifts but also will occasionally compete in smaller local comps.
CrossFit keeps me fit but I’d say climbing and kayaking are my two favorite activities.
Rock is fine but ice climbing and alpinism are my happy places.
Kayaking and biking in the summer can be a mix of relaxation and activity.
And some hiking and trail runs thrown in for fun. I just like being outdoors tbh.
Acadia was so incredibly beautiful. We had a great time going to the beaches, enjoying hikes, and seeing wildlife!
Saw some deer, a bald eagle, and so many other birds.
Plus the loop is fairly small and so it was easy to do a few hikes and return the next day with the kids.
And as a climber, I was really excited about Otter Cliffs. So I’m headed out there again in a few weeks to do some climbing.
Bar Harbor was also a great town. Very cute and enough to keep kids and adults entertained.
Would highly recommend both Acadia and Bar Harbor.
Poly shirts and ones that actually fit well + body glide.
I have found that if the shirt is a bit looser then it actually chafes more. If it fits well I’m generally better off.
Also I’m grateful for the copious quantities of body hair. Honestly that’s really helped provide padding 😂
But sometimes I simply add a bandaid or take off my shirt.
Honestly ZMA is one of the few supplements I take. It’s really helped with my DOMS and muscle soreness.
Haven’t met any, in fact.
Married an Aussie too. Thankfully she’s not called Tasmania. 😂
Why? I’m genuinely curious.
Type 2 fun is my favorite kind of fun.
It’s so rewarding at the end of the day!
I’m 42. Been climbing for 20+ years.
Happily married with kids and love my family.
I go ice climbing every season. And I go rock climbing in the summer. Ultimately you can decide what level of risk is appropriate for you.
I feel much safer ice climbing in the mountains than I do driving in Boston.
I’m not even going on try and touch upon the absurdity of the first part of your comment.
But the second part of your comment re: CrossFit is straight up wrong. CrossFit if anything is much more focused on performance. We do workouts focused on strength, gymnastics, and metabolic conditioning.
In fact, one of the common complaints about CrossFit is that it doesn’t help with hypertrophy and that it hardly has any workouts focusing on bench and biceps. Most people who want to look good pursue a hypertrophy regimen outside of CrossFit.
That’s the opposite of what you are suggesting.
Also, you’re on a CrossFit sub. Why are you even here man?
I definitely think mismanagement is a huge factor here.
CrossFit could have ridden the wave to greater heights. Instead, incompetence got us here.
I’m a climber / alpinist too. For me trail running helps with zone 2 training without having to deal with running on the road (or a treadmill).
Yeah, I don’t get this.
Smoking is incredibly awful for your health. Increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
Obviously it’s good that OP wants to get healthy but I’d say that smoking should be on top of the list to get healthy.
It’s one thing if you smoke occasionally — every couple of months I’ll smoke a joint or tobacco. But doing it regularly is incredibly awful for your health and fitness.
But to answer OP’s question, it depends on your goal with IF. If it’s just limiting calorie intake it shouldn’t matter.
But there have been a lot of studies that show that smoking impairs fasting glucose levels and increases risk of type 2 diabetes [1][2].
Also as another posted pointed out, for longer fasts you may not see the effects of autophagy as a smoker [3].

When I lived in Australia, met more than a few women named Tamsen or variations thereof.
They rip all the time unless you care for them.
I’m also a climber so I have found over the past couple of decades that it’s much less painful to take care of calluses vs. letting them get to a point where they could rip.
Yeah. I posted this elsewhere in this thread, but snowy ice climbs are common.
This was me last year: https://imgur.com/a/snowy-standard-crawford-notch-nh-8pi71xl
Ice climbing is actually a ton of fun.
In this instance, it looks like there’s fresh snow and some of it broke loose. So he’s just waiting for it to be done before climbing on.
Happens all the time — obviously this is an extreme example but it’s part of ice climbing.
If you look at the video, you’ll see that he is leading.
It also looks like there’s fresh snow and ice underneath.
My guess is there’s a ton of fresh snow and he’s trying to climb through it.
And while he was climbing, there was snow coming down from up top so he’s just waiting for it to stop before climbing on.
Leading on ice is no joke — so he’s just waiting for it to pass. There are risky moves I’d take on rock but leader falls on ice are terrifying.
So sometimes you just wait for the snow to be done with before you climb.
Here’s an example of what I mean: this was me at Crawford Notch. The ice is behind a ton of snow and it was a slog to get to it.
And in the second pic you can see a deluge of snow coming down.
CrossFit, climbing, and kayaking.
Absolutely love them all.
