Do not microwave. Extensive crackled glaze can let moisture seep into the clay which will heat in microwave and potentially turn into flying shards (I’ve had it happen with a commercial mug.)

This is the answer I was looking for. OP - you say your BIL and his wife… doesn’t that mean she’s your sister? I just find it interesting that you’ve left out that family connection. Are you and your sister close? Is there a previous conflict there? That kind of thing tends to bubble to the surface when folks get stressed. I would urge compassion, while also saying 100% it is your body and your boundaries for giving birth! Your sister is worried, and probably grieving the loss of her own expectations of giving birth - which doesn’t give her the right to put them onto you! But I hope you two can find some warm feelings along with the stressful ones. This is such a gift you’re giving to them.
The product I use takes a specific type of laser printer, not inkjet. It’s called “fired-on images” and takes advantage of the iron in the toner to print an over glaze decal that will be quite permanent and stable when fired.
