This is pretty typical for hatches and trunk lids with a sharp curve or dip on the panel. Trying to stretch that over in one piece would a lot more likely to fail. Especially being a satin material, the additional stretching it would take to pull it around that edge would distort the finish. I would have seamed it here too, but I would have made it much cleaner. Also, definitely would have removed the spoiler for a cleaner lay down.
