It’s our most modestly priced religious receptacle.

It really depends on the bike. The new Stumpjumper for example comes with a 27.5 rear wheel in the small and extra small S1 and S2 they call it sizes. Not because 27.5 is inherently better for smaller riders, because it is not. But because the larger wheel created clearance issues with the saddle and rider’s rear end when using the dropper. Bottom line, not all bikes will have that issue. Especially shorter travel FS bikes like the new Chisel for example. So there is no firm answer to which is better.

I just learned about Kavenz. Looks really versatile.

kavenz

No, sorry. The minimum buy in for a decent new suspension is gonna be at least $2000 new. $700 will get you a Walmart bike that looks like a mountain bike.

Versatile? Ivis DV9!!!

Jenson have a very sweet build for $2600. I know that’s more than your $2k max but it’s worth and will easily hold its value way more than a Chisel or others mentioned. Such a versatile bike.

You cannot buy a proper full suspension mountain bike that is new for $600. Either up your budget or buy a hardtail. Most new riders should learn on a hardtail anyways.

I am assuming the 'mountain bike team' you are referring to is your local NICA mountain bike club/team usually affiliated with the high school but also open to middle school riders? If so, great because NICA teams are the perfect place to get your kids involved in the sport and a safe and fun way.

I coach for 2 different teams in my area east of San Francisco. Not all teams are the same. Some are more organized and experienced than others as far as coaching and organization goes. But the bottom line is they will typically group riders of similar skills together and take them on rides appropriate for their skill level. Most teams will work with riders to improve their skills over time as well as improve their conditioning through gradually increases the length and intensity of practice rides. Races are fun for any level rider but are also typically optional and not all team members participate in races.

I'm not exactly sure what 'Walmart bike' you have so it's hard to say if it will work for MTB cross country riding. My typical experience with these bikes is no, they are not adequate. But depending on where you live and the trails the team will ride it might work. Generally speaking, department store bikes are heavy and the suspension systems are typically designed more for looks to encourage sales or to make them comfortable on bike paths, not trails.

I would say your son would be much better off with an entry level hardtail MTB. Ideally a good rule of thumb is try to get a bike with an air spring fork and 12 speeds. Price range for a bike like that will be $1000 or more new..most likely. ALWAYS tell the shop you are with NICA and usually get a 25% discount so it could be a lot less $ actually. This is not mandatory as you can ride on coil spring forks and 10 or 11 speeds depending on the terrain. Where we ride it's very steep and even an 11spd would be challenging. Especially for a new rider. If it's at all close in size always buy a size larger than you think you might need so they can grow into the bike rather than you having to buy a new bike every year. Good luck.

I mean I guess. If you want to give up mountain biking and just ride dirt jumps. This is a mountain bike sub. So, since I personally love mountain biking and would not want my only bike to be a dirt jump bike. I’d say no. If in fact that’s your only bike.

Newly released models are still being offered at full price. So the deals do exist but only for previous model years and inventory. Still some great bikes and great deals.

I don’t race or really do hard core downhill but at 57 I’m in fittest I’ve been in my life. I have stinger endurance capabilities than my teenager boys who ride with me. It’s never too late.

I had a steel drop bar 29er that was a lot of fun by Rawland. Similar to Karate monkey. Now I’m looking to do another drop bar gravel/mtb they can run 2.25 to 2.4’s and have front and maybe rear suspension but still he light like a Lauf.

The design is been out for several years. It’s likely to be updated in the near future and lose the discount.

Yeah, if you can only have one bike that is probably true.

That is a common spec for headsets. Some OEM use cheap headsets from FSA after 8 years you might need a newer better one. I prefer Chris King.

What bike. What year. What headset?

What do reckon the max tire size on the rear would be. GT website say 45mm. I am hoping real word is more….??

I’m your size and ride the S5. $1500 at Probikesupply.com. Great guy the owner, Mark.

Specialized Stumpjumper 130 should be in this list. Frame is in deep discount now $1750. Not sluggish.

Oops, failure to follow instructions. I missed the whole part about rigid. Yeah, I have one of those...it's called Gravel Bike. Works great.
