I payed 5 bucks for a nexus membership (automates the download of several hundred mods) and had begin again installed within like 2 hours. Might not be what you're after but it's highly customizable and you can add mods on top. I've only had 2 crashes in 20 hours of gameplay.

Normally it will either say so in the title of the mod, or it might have an optional file for ttw
I'm sure if you type in "multiple followers" or some variation of it there will be several to choose from. Make sure you download a ttw compatible one
You can add mods to the list in the mod manager. There could even be an option for multiple followers in the tweaks menu but I'm not certain
I used mod organizer 2 included with wabbajack. Hard to say what's going on there, it could be many things that went wrong during the whole process.
But I'd say get a clean slate as the guy does in the video I linked and start from there. Even if u don't want the begin again list, you can still follow that just to install "vanilla" ttw
Can you specifically explain what is not working properly?
I play it with the begin again modlist and it's been great. I know you don't want videos but this is really more concise and clear than I could ever explain.

I like just using the vanilla 1.19 ruins with the "150% ruin spawns" mod by the same author as better ruins.
Better ruins is very impressive but some of it is just too much for me. It's amazing when you stumble upon some of the builds included in it but there are literally mountain sized cathedrals and imo that sort of thing doesn't mesh well with the spirit of VS. It is also arguably pretty OP although you can use a version that has no loot. I have not tested it though
I would love to see a version of better ruins with just the smaller scale stuff.

"Slower sprinters" mod let's you pick how fast they are. I found that setting them to be about the speed of a players jog is pretty fun. You can sprint to outrun them but not for long.
