The "women want to date rich guys" stereotype is not meaningfully real
There's a stereotype that women consider salary as one of the biggest factors when they are choosing who to date. I don't see this at all.
Obviously, at the very top, this is true. Jeff Bezos's gf wants some cash. But that is an extreme case that isn't relevant to most people's lives.
Does a guy with a $300k Google job or dentist or lawyer get more women than a guy making $50k? I honestly don't know. It is not an observably true phenomenon in my experience. Girls on Hinge or whatever realistically are not swiping based on their perception of how much cash a guy has—it's just attractiveness and vibes.
In real life, women (and men) are attracted to people with power and good standing in a community. The football team captain gets more interest from girls because he is a leader and everyone likes him.
This has a tenuous connection to making money. Women will find the highest-ranking guy at their office more attractive than the others—he's hot because he has power. But it doesn't seem to affect people dating outside their community. A guy isn't hot because he works in an industry with high salaries.
People also like dating others similar to them. Like if you went to a fancy college, you want to date other people who went to fancy colleges. They are from your world. But this isn't the "I want to date a rich guy" stereotype.
The "girls like guys with money" thing paints regular women as economic opportunists. But I just haven't seen that be true. They like guys for fickle, emotional reasons. I like girls for similar fickle, emotional reasons.
