You are probably right; but, those bigger customers have the money, resources, and power to switch far better than small and medium businesses. It costs a lot of money to switch…I might have to buy new hardware, I might have to get assistance and resources. I’m sure VMWare ran the numbers; but, the one number they didn’t run is retention. Sure, this year they win…people won’t change this quick…but, next year? The year after as people shift?

Subscription only works of the monthly/annual cost is less than the cost of the perpetual license over a short term. This isn’t the case here…

Say what you want about Microsoft but they went from charging enterprises 700 for the office suite to 29 dollars for an E3 per month…companies can easily take that and say …ok i can buy a new license every three to five years or buy this monthly and stay up to date.

Time will tell on this but I don’t think it will work out the way VMWare thinks it will.

We could band together and pursue a class action for unilaterally changing the terms of the perpetual licensing agreement we had in place without sufficient notice. What needs to happen, and will probably happen, is hold on to your perpetual and don’t renew for the short term until:

a) find an alternative b) Broadcom sees the massive drop in revenue.

I get it…subscription is the way everyone is going…but, the price is astronomical and there was not sufficient notice given of this change. I, myself, have seen a 400 percent price increase and I’m a small player. I’ve seen some departments go from $150,000 to $1.5 million dollars. How is that sustainable when you budgeted only $150,000 for the year and how can you justify spending $1.5 million a year annually to renew?

Broadcom really screwed this up…they should have left SnS alone with perpetual and have a subscription option that was affordable, at the very least, to gain more market share. I guarantee you in 6-7 years Broadcom will be selling this unit after absolutely decimating it.

Think about it…they don’t want you to talk at work or build relationships. I bet you people rarely get together outside of work because you can’t build a relationship when you can’t talk. I’m against photo radar because it is pushed as a “safety” measure when in reality it is a cash cow. It doesn’t actually change behaviour. The stops, the demerits, the fines…that changes it. I’m not against this path with more sheriffs I’m against the city virtue signalling (as they always do) for safety on the roads; but, doing it passive aggressively. If your dog shits on the floor and when you get home you give him shit for it..he just thinks you come home and hate him. You get a ticket 2 weeks after the fact for something you did doesn’t change behaviour either.

Honestly you want to fix emergency wait times? Easy fix…make walk in clinics that have walk ins again and don’t need a fucking appointment. People are going to emergency for everything from sniffles to major events…we need to try to get those filtered…having a front line that can manage the non-emergencies helps with those wait times…

If i can say one thing about concrete these days…it’s a piece of shit compared to the 70s and 80s. My parents house doesn’t have a single crack in the foundation or the basement floor…not one. House was built in 79. Fast forward to my house in 2014 and i had cracks on the floor and a foundation crack that has water seeping in…then bought a new house in 2020 and my driveway concrete chipped to shit…never used any salt or anything. Luckily the builder replaced.

I feel like they just put more additives rather than making the concrete hard and able to withstand things. There are obvious differences…look at the sidewalks that the city builds and then have your own sidewalk and see which lasts longer. I believe there is a strength rating we default to as home owners and one for municipal projects…

I think if the political climate here is too much for you…I would leave. Honestly…if you think things are that bad here and you feel unsafe or that Alberta’s going into the shitter…go to somewhere you think is better. I’m not trying to be callous…I’m being honest.

Alberta remains a beacon of ingenuity, economic abundance, and powerhouse. It has its problems but so does everybody else…tides change, politics change, but, things always move forward even if you think it’s backwards. Do I think we will leave the CPP? Fuck no… It depends what side of the political spectrum you are on in regards to Danielle Smith…but, the problem is that our government (whether you think is right or wrong) is enraged at the feds…and until something happens at the federal level…the enraged manner in which we govern will continue…this would have been the same under Klein…we just got our way a lot more back then.

The fact remains that Alberta is being run by conservatives…it used to be run by progressive conservatives and there’s a big difference between that. The NDP are more PC than the UCP…that’s the issue.

Until federally something changes…Alberta will continues to assert its rights to whatever it thinks it is entitled to…

During the course ownership the risk is very very low…the only time that a risk is apparent and high is during sale of your home. This is why they usually have title insurance during that time and you pay for it…other than that…unless you knowingly let someone in your home with paper work and a notary and sign over the title…you have no risk.

I agree with that statement…but, then people will lose their minds because we all think we need to speed somewhere or want to…even though every fucking time I speed past someone we end up at the same damn light lol….

Unfortunately this is true…and it’s also due to single stream recycling in Edmonton. Our stream is highly contaminated and as such about 20 - 25 percent of what you put in is thrown away as non recyclable and if the market crashes we have to find a place to send this stuff or it goes into a landfill…when China used to take all our stuff it was easy to send them a bale of “paper” that had a bunch of other material…now that they’ve shut down their doors to that waste from the stream has gone up and yields have gone down…

I digress though…unfortunately I don’t think there is a city department that runs effectively or efficiently. From transit to construction projects to everything in between…we can’t seem to do anything with a true level of competency. I’m not saying we are the shittiest…there are tons of other cities that are in the exact same spot…but, Edmonton has a way about it that just pisses everyone off. Construction projects in the city rarely run on time and on budget, waste in budgets is generally not dealt with and you get year over year property tax increases, we seem to spend money on pet projects rather than looking at usage (sorry bike lanes…although they are good in some areas) and we have a virtue signalling council that has little knowledge of administrative functions for the city and more about looking good on TV.

This comment here is what makes sense. When you send someone a ticket for photo radar…what you are doing is taxing someone for speeding….you might change behaviour due to cost but some people can afford it or get fancy laser detectors…. in all this shit needs to stop. You want to give out tickets out more sheriffs out and give out tickets don’t hide behind a yellow truck and call it “Drive Safely”
