Hi all, I wanted to come on here to help me with what I should do next with VGC.
December of 2023, my best friend and fellow Pokemon fan Dylan passed away unexpectedly. He was only 17. I feel like giving up on our goal of pursuing VGC.
I grew up with Pokemon. My first game was Black 2. My entire world was revolved around Pokemon when I was younger.
After taking a pretty long hiatus from the games after only watching Ash in the shows and movies, I decided to pickup Pokemon Scarlet when it came out. It amazed me, as it was like an entire new country just spawned out nowhere for me to explore. As I played through the game, I finally realized the importance of things like stats, abilities, even types. Thankfully, this didn’t ruin the game for me at all, and it took the game to the next level for more.
From there, the rest is history. I started making competitive teams, playing on showdown, and whatever else a Pokemon nerd would do. It wasn’t until 2023 till I realized the world of Pokemon battling extended beyond my switch and into the real world through VGC tournaments. We made the goal of becoming champions. Dylan was in more of an assistive role, being practically my coach and battle partner. So I registered for the January 2024 Charlotte Regionals!
We never made it to that point. After his death, I gave up competitive altogether, and drifted away from Pokemon once again. Ash leaving the Pokemon Anime devastated me as well, he was kind of my role model growing up. Recently, I’ve been getting a drive to compete. I wanna do the best I can at the next regionals.
Do you guys have any advice for picking VGC back up, or any tips on how to be the very best?
