Is the radar-assisted cruise control affected too?

I've found information about the radar used for the cruise control, but only references regarding radar for the Lane Assist. I suspect LA combines visual and radar sensors.

That's interesting. Some lane assist systems use optical tracking and other use radar. I know some automotive radar systems do operate in the 5 Ghz range, as it's basically a low-power Doppler Radar.

5Ghz wi-fi has a number of channels designated as DFS. DFS requires the devices to scan the channels for a period of time, usually 15 to 20 minutes to make sure there is no weather radar operating on the same band. Otherwise you would end up in a situation like this when the Doppler Radar beamed toward you.

If you could share make model of truck, or if you're willing to do the leg work to see if your lane assist is radar based, this could give more damning evidence for this being a major interference issue.

Addendum: I have nothing to back this up, but I suspect this may involve the relay tower at the water tank off Yosemite, just north of 118. I believe that is all county infrastructure. I know a VCFD repeater is up there.

Wireless AA and Carplay often use 5Ghz Wi-Fi. I know mine definitely does. I need to read up on DFS,which involves detecting if a DFS band is in use for weather radar. This could be a contributor. I've also heard 5G+ may bleed into 5Ghz, but I need to read up on that too.

RF Interference on 118?

My truck has Android Auto and I have a dongle to make it Wireless Android Auto. Wireless AA and Apple Carplay use local, adhoc wi-fi to do most of the communication with the phone, in addition to Bluetooth for initial connection and phone calls. I've always experienced a little interference with these between Yosemite and Kuhner, when passing under the wire (assuming high-voltage power) that crosses the 118 in this area. Not too unusual.

Several weeks ago I began experiencing prolonged interference from Sycamore to just past Kuhner, and it happens as soon as I get on the 118 in this area. Interference across such a large area indicates this is something other than the typical "environment" interference. The strength of the interference is much higher as well, as it can still disconnect my phone from the dongle when seperated by mere inches.

Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues with their wireless Android Auto or Apple Carplay on the 118 on the East side? If this is a broader issue, than a request can be made to the FCC to investigate, as such interference is a violation of FCC regulations.

ADDITION: If you're a HAM operator on the East side, have you experienced and/or know of interference in the 5Ghz band?

I'm currently using 2x 1.5KVa UPS for the homelab rack. I also live in a SoCal area affected by SCE Public Safety Power Shut-offs (PSPS), so we purchased a 7KVa portable generator which I connect through an outdoor receptacle into a Transfer panel that services about a dozen breakers, including the lab and home automation. The UPSs provide more than enough time for me to haul the generator out and energize the transfer panel.

At some point I plan to automate the shutdown and restart of unnecessary servers/services based on grid power availability and battery status.

Their building is weird. Have you ever looked at it from the west side, i.e. from the Harbor Freight parking lot?

Not a cosplayer, but know many. There are some around Simi that do, but I don't think (m)any of them are on Reddit or at least not this sub.

There was an event here in Simi back in February that probably would have been your best bet to find others. I don't know of anything else similar in Simi.

I got the "Welcome to GigabitNow Fiber Optic Internet Service" over the weekend. It had no specifics on when I'd get my service. I'm in the Q3 2023 area from the Old Map.

The color accent with the shadow use nails the Alien/Aliens vibe. Kudos.

Glad to see it back, wish I'd learned about it sooner.

Ahhh... yes Fry's, The Annihilator. That location in particular was responsible for the death of many mom and pop computers shops in the SFV, as well as the CompUSA around the corner from Fry's.

Amazingly the little shop I worked in as a teen is still around: R-Tech Computers (Sherman Way & Farralone).

Curious to know if you had same experiences as me….i know most of the time i bought electronics there (like radios and others) they always crapped out or didnt work.

Fry's bought a lot... A LOT... of B-stock, because it's cheap. Most B-stock is damaged packaging, but is any product that is not fit for shipping, which included items that failed Quality Control and were refurbished before being packaged.

Amazon has a lot of crap electronics too. Just wasteful Chinese crap.

Fry's had it too. They really were the pre-cursor to Amazon.

Help Finding Zlatogor Pshenichnaya Wheat VodkaQuestion

A friend recently passed and I'm looking for his favorite liquor from back home, Zlatogor Pshenichnaya Wheat Vodka. The label previously looked like this.

If you happen to know a place in LA that stocks or regularly gets this, please let me know. I'm hoping to get one bottle to honor him and another for his family.

Recently Mentioned Band(s)Question

On one of the January Nextlander Podcasts someone emailed in, I believe, regarding a band that opened for Tool and it's name being gaming related. Alex then mentioned that one of the band members was previously in another band with a gaming related name. Possibly Elden.

I tried scrubbing around the last 3 podcasts and couldn't find the answer. Does anyone recall?

I like how Diablo 4 has handled the location of their accessibility settings. There is a dedicated menu/tab with all the accessibility settings, but it also has the same accessibility settings on the relative menu/tab (Video, Audio, Gameplay) as well.

I know it's sort of double work, but it's a fairly elegant solution.

Unfortunately, there isn't a good option around here. There is some decent Japanese food, but ramen isn't one of them.

It's a bit of a trip but I recommend Rococo Ramen in Granada Hills.

Local Small Business Suggestions?

Anyone care to recommend a local Small Business for the upcoming Small Business Saturday? Please share the name, location, and why you are recommending them.

Panda Bowl - 2311 Tapo St Ste A Simi Valley, CA 93063

Family owned and operated, serving this location for 30-ish years. If you want Chinese takeout that is better than and a little more authentic than Panda Express, check out Panda Bowl.

My goto is a single-item combo of half chow mein & half fried rice and Orange Chicken (way better than Express's). I don't think I've had anything from the hot table I'd recommend against. Their "ordered" items (i.e. not on the hot table, has to be ordered) are pretty good and usually take 5-10 minutes to prepare. The wife and I like the "ordered" Wonton Soup and the Spicy Garlic Shrimp, respectively, when we're sick.

This article has several updates on the matter:

Xbox's new policy — say goodbye to unofficial accessories from November thanks to error '0x82d60002'

The Latest Update:

Users that are connecting devices via 3.5mm ports, or via the USB sockets on the Xbox Adaptive Controller will not be impacted by these restrictions. This is to ensure that third-party devices designed for accessibility will remain viable.

"There is no impact to players using the Xbox Adaptive Controller and any peripherals plugged into the Xbox Adaptive Controller’s USB and 3.5MM ports. This includes both licensed Designed for Xbox devices listed on the Accessories Hub Page, as well as those that currently connect with the Xbox Adaptive Controller. If you do not receive an error code, then your accessory will not be impacted. For questions, please reach out to the Disability Answer Desk."

Microsoft has reaffirmed that devices that connect directly to the Xbox via USB that are unlicensed and do not have authorization from Xbox will stop functioning after two weeks. The grace period is to allow users to return and replace those devices.
