Was probably going with a waterproof laminate. Hadn’t thought of caulking the underlayment, sounds like a good idea. I’ll probably do the top layer in OSB and hope for the best. New plumbing shouldn’t be blowing up anytime soon. Thanks

Here’s the weird part, the hardware stores by me don’t have any 5/8 osb. I’d have to go to the next town over like 80 miles away. I’m debating scheduling a delivery but was hoping to get it done today

Congrats on escaping Frontier. Those guys suck. I just wasted an entire day when a shop I service had their tech come out for an outage (was a wire down at the street) and they replaced the modem without saying anything. All our firewall rules, port forwarding, DHCP reservations - POOF. If they said something it could have been backed up and restored to the new box.

Layered subfloor question

Good afternoon, I am hoping you could help me to understand something a little clearer. I have a rental which had a pipe burst and trashed the subfloor for part of the kitchen. It’s an older doublewide, and during demo found that it was original 5/8” particle board with a 1/4” OSB skin over it. In order to keep the flooring the same height, I would need to put particle board back down with the skin over it, but know particle board is crap especially in wet areas. Is there anything I can do to mitigate as much of the cons as possible if there is a future issue with water there?

Possible but not likely. Sudden pressure to the spinal nerves/fluid can cause a stroke

It might make it easier to think about it with regular SSD’s, the difference can be small or large, depending what you’re using it for. A fast SSD with cheap cache might as well be a slow drive if you transfer very large, single files, and a slow drive with fancy cache feels fast when copying large numbers of small files. The only additional thought to add there is when it comes to USB sticks, the latter example means you might also end up having to wait a while before you can unplug it.

One of the prime benefits to a Prius is just how gloriously low maintenance they are (in the long run) so I would let it go as long as you can. I’m in the same boat with my RAV4, where I will let it return to rust, and the Prius before it finally gave up the ghost thanks to a job with 90% travel

This just sounds like the weeb version of “I don’t want to live on this planet anymore”

If anything, the continued division of US politics and the further extreme each side is getting is the greater threat. It is getting to the point where a majority of the country now have different problems (where if you look back, we had similar problems but were divided on how to deal with them) and the argument of those issues has turned huge segments of both sides into extremists of their own viewpoints. The healthiest thing here would be to allow something like a Balkanization where the country divides up based on worldview and approach to governing, but nobody in their right mind would seriously think that could happen peacefully in today’s climate. The ridiculous amount of power the US holds is too shiny for any politician to be willing to part with any shred of.

My entire wardrobe is probably less than $350, which is now making me concerned about my sensibilities.

I’m in AZ, another place known for being oppressively hot. You can combine traditional building with todays technologies. My house is partially buried. My first floor is actually 8 feet down, and there is sealed ventilation ducts at the base that creates convection air flow as temps change. This allows me to keep the place from getting hotter than 85, even if it is 125 outside. I have an air conditioner, but only run it in the bedroom for the most part and it takes very little energy to do so. If I suddenly lost access to AC, it wouldn’t be world ending for me, just mildly uncomfortable (or maybe comfortable depending how long I have to be outside)

Code Adaptation toolsQuestion | Help

I am looking at creating a fork to a project on GitHub that combines it with a couple others, which use a different language (that I don’t know) and thought I might be able to use a local LLM to process the contents of the repo and guide me through converting it. Some of the features and concepts are way above my pay grade, and while I will learn along the way, would like something I can use that will work as a sanity check / function explainer where poor/no comments exist.

In short, what would be the most efficient LLM tool to read the contents of a github repo, and be able to accurately explain and translate its code, without having to train that data externally before the model is running interactively?

Thanks in advance!

Fair point, i actually already did that and got a quote that was double and then some, hence why I don’t want to tip off my current insurer, who I have paid up for the next 16 months

Auto-Owners, 16 RAV4. Location probably big piece of it, I’m a bit….isolated

It’s all good. I spend too much time away from home so the only bit that really bothered me was the sense of invasion.

I’ve got the Reloptix kit, they’re affordable and are better in every way compared with glasses

There’s a pretty big difference between a bad TL and changing plot points and character identity. Some are far more severe than others. Except for some way to manage age-appropriate content, or actual abuse content, I’m firmly anti all censorship, in the purest sense of the word. I was a technical aid for an author writing a book, and during multiple calls or email chains with translators and editors, I lost count of the number of times the author was righteously angry at editors changing words or sentences that completely changed the emphasis or context of the source material because it “sounded better” or “would sell better”.

I know it’s a touchy subject, but creators pour themselves into their creations, and it’s a damn shame for those works to be arbitrarily changed by a third party when the person who made it is unaware. As someone who wants to create as well, it’s a hill I’m willing to die on, even before it became political in the US.

Hold it unless paying off debt worth that much would put your cash flow positive and Chang your life enough to lose the opportunity cost.

I upgraded my pc a little. Put Linux on my MacBook Pro 1,1 (2006)

Jokes aside, im a technomancer. My place got broken into and all they took was my tv and kitchen appliances because they couldn’t figure out what all the old 200lb machines were.

Also, that SATA port, is very likely a SAS port. Backwards compatibility with sata.

The amount of paper that went into this is both hilarious and impressive

The underlying assumption is that men always do things for girls, and anyone doing things for themselves are also just doing it for girls. Just accept the misunderstanding, it will never go away.

Jokes on you, several have beaten you to the punch

I almost don’t want to call my insurance company to find out why I’m still at $82/mo, even if it’s a 7 yr old car, this makes me feel like they may fix it to the right, higher price
