Most enemies scale in Skyrim, so if you remain lvl 1 you never get any of the higher level dragons. Ancient dragons do about 8x the damage of standard dragons.

Didn't mention that because in some games it actually does make sense and add to the experience, like in rally simulators.

Tbf when you first go into most boss fights it's not clear that there is a boss. The fog gate doesn't show up until the 2nd attempt.
