Awesome, been waiting for this so I can import some 4K releases to the UK, since we get so few here.
Ordered:
Bound, Blood Simple, The Sound of Metal, Perfect Days, Blue Velvet, Pat Garret and Billy the Kid.
Looking forward to seeing them!
There is compelling evidence that he's been faking his 4K vs bluray comparisons . He hasn't mounted any kind of explanation for this beyond dismissing it as coming from "haters" which only makes him appear more guilty in my mind.
And you're right, most YouTubers do shamelessly self-promote, which is why I am very picky about the ones I spend time with.
That's because Criterion releases normally command a premium. This sale brings them back down to a sensible price, so people go mad for it.
Maybe my perception is CaM is off then. I've never watched any of his videos for more than 5 minutes (can't stand YouTube personalities in general tbh) so perhaps I've missed all that. Regardless, ISoPM makes me want to lop my own head off within seconds, everything from his mannerisms to his personality to his compulsive self-promotion to his face grates on my nerves. It doesn't help at all that it transpires he's a chronic liar as well.
Either way I retract my recommendation for CaM but it really doesn't matter, they're both just noise.
The slip is very nice, I agree, but the gold isn't foil, it's a spot colour.
No way, Cereal at Midnight is less obnoxious and it isn't even close.
Like all these media YouTubers (and YouTubers in general really), CaM likes to present his perspective as gospel, which is why I rarely watch him either, but In Search of Physical Media is just so fucking annoying that he's hard to watch for more than a couple of minutes.
Be aware that it doesn't always work, it varies from label to label.
What an interesting development — I had always read that there were none! Thanks for that, might have to get one.
Exactly, the internet became shit over a decade ago with all that crap. This is just phase two.
I have that old Aeon Flux set too! I remember getting it when it first came out and being mesmerised by the show, it's got such a unique style to it. Pity the live action movie was so bad, it could've been incredible if the studio had the balls to do it properly.
I didn't think there were any computer UHD drives?
I bought a car one evening and the very next morning and the guy who sold it to me ghosted me. If about 12 hours before catastrophic failure wasn't enough for a refund, then 3 months sure as hell isn't. I'm amazed they're even trying it, I expect they're trying to scam you.
Ah okay, thank you, I didn't realise that. Always thought there were two versions released from the beginning.
I don't want to doubt you, but are you sure that isn't the actual original theatrical cut? Because that was also unrated (didn't go through the MPAA) and ran for 156 minutes.
I wonder if I'm getting mixed up here, I had always thought there were two main versions. The original theatrical version and the alternative version that Penthouse added their own scenes to, but perhaps they're one and the same.
Are you sure? It doesn't explicitly state anywhere that it is.
He appears to have stopped comments now, I just tried to comment having never commented on any of his videos before, but it hasn't appeared.
Soooo... the classic denial and doubling down on your integrity while refusing to comment on the mountain of evidence against you?
Always interesting to watch and see how that approach pans out.
shortly after DFIC done his video on the Cameron Home Video Abyss to put out a video. Saying it wasn't "so serious".... because Aliens UHD 98% better than the Blu-ray.....because he saids so.
Yeah, a few YouTubers did similar things around the time of those releases (and a few more vocally refused to do reviews or make comparisons), which instantly made me realise that those people either don't know what they're talking about or aren't passionate about the quality that UHD should demand. Either way, I lost interest in watching any of their videos after that. UHD is all about maximum quality, otherwise we'd be streaming or watching blurays. If you can't even maintain that then what's the point?
This guy has always struck me as a smarmy shill.
Yeah, 100%. Also can't stand the way he goes on and on about how he's done all this exclusive work so he can exclusively bring us these exclusive videos we're exclusively watching on his exclusive channel. Give me a break. Not entirely surprised to learn he's faking his comparisons either, since there is no easy way to pull screenshots from a disc.
I hear you, but that's never going to happen, and there's little point in hoping otherwise.
Some denial going on here with the down votes...
I was thinking more about shooting outside and hadn't considered a stage, but either way I stand corrected, thank you. I hadn't realised that was possible without enormous extra effort.
Surely that isn't possible, the reason they shoot the live plates first is so that they can match the lighting and colour tones to it later in the computer. You can't change the lighting in real life to match visual effects that have already been made. It's more likely that they'll do it Creator style with only building visible visual effects on top of the filmed footage instead of making whole 3D environments like they would normally.
Same, I'm surprised so many people dislike it, it's the nicest looking new ship design since the E, after which everything has been ugly as hell.
Amazon do often price match B&N, but we'll have to wait and see.
Barnes & Noble Criterion sale looks to be up (suppose it's already 6/28 on the east coast)
