My wife and I were just watching a show where these high school kids were at a party and it sparked a conversation. Admittedly, she and I are both somewhat introverted and have always had smaller groups of friends. But we both agreed that we don’t recall ever going to any big elaborate parties in high school. Any that I recall had, at most, 15-20 people. Most less than 10. I know I was pretty lame back then, but I don’t even remember hearing about any big parties. But you always see these big house parties in the movies. Is this just Hollywood doing what it does, or was I really that much of a loser in high school? 😂
Hey neighbor! I went to high school right down the road in Alexandria. Like I said, I may have just been lame lol, but nope, no big bonfires that I recall.
Same. She tells me about things like that and I’m floored. There were 80 in my graduating class.
Most of the time my friends would come over to my house because my parents had a walk out basement, so we’d hang out down there and drink. We also had an older friend, 24 or 25, that had his own place and sometimes we’d go hang out with him, and he was always the one to get our booze for us.
I grew up in rural Alabama, so I had that thought as well, maybe just because of where I lived. But my wife grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, and mentioned there was around 1000 kids in her graduating class.
I have a little social anxiety as well. I’m good one on one, but when there are crowds I get nervous. Generally I’ll just keep it brief with a handshake and “Good to see you” or “Enjoyed the sermon today”. Some Sundays, like today, I’ll slip out right after communion to avoid the crowd.
Mom is in her late 70s. When she passes the house and contents will go to me. There’s a few items I want to keep, and I’m sure my brother and sister do as well. But most of it will go to an estate sale. Nobody needs as much stuff as mom has lol. I feel like this is a generational thing, my wife and I are much less materialistic than our parents were.
I’ve been at my current company since 2017, and plan to retire from here. Love the culture, coworkers, and I get paid really well to do something I enjoy. However, I have quit a few jobs in the 25 years I’ve been in the workforce. The last two I quit were because of ungrateful management, crappy work conditions, and low pay. In my experience you can have one of these issues and work through it, but when it’s combined it’s time to bounce.
It varies depending on the size and cook temp. I smoked a 5 lb butt a couple of weeks ago. 250, took around 7 hours to reach an internal temp of 205.
First off, congratulations on the baby!!
Depending on the amount of time you have to devote to smoking, could go Boston Butt or pork shoulder. Definitely get several meals out of that. Or, if time is more limited I would say a boneless pork loin or chicken leg quarters.
Merle Haggard and Jason Isbell
I definitely don’t believe I’ve settled. I spent a lot of time studying and praying before coming back to TEC. I considered EOC for a time, and have a lot of respect for them, but my beliefs align more with the Anglican tradition. And I believe that the Anglican Church is just as much a part of the church catholic as the EOC or RCC.
If I remember right I was in 9th grade. I got dropped off at my Memaw’s everyday after school, and she would fill me in on everything I missed that day.
I wish we could have watched the trial that ended yesterday, given the historic significance…and that’s all I’ll say about that.
<checks script> both actors are 80 years old. They’re going to need bathroom breaks. Lost opportunity if the ad space wasn’t sold to adult diapers and ED meds.
Pick any random song from John Moreland. And I second Broken Window Serenade and Dress Blues.
I find the Jesus Prayer helps me calm down when I am dealing with anxiety.
Midnight Run or maybe Casino…oh, or the remake of Cape Fear.
“Come out Counselor!!”
Midnight Run and Casino were the first two that came to mind when I saw this post.
Ranch flavored Doritos. When I was a kid I ate a bag and then a couple hours started puking my brains out. Come to find out it was a stomach flu, but just the smell of ranch Doritos makes me nauseous now.
Same thing with chocolate covered cherries.

I wish I was in Austin, at the Chili Parlor Bar, drinking Mad Dog Margaritas and not caring where you are
The old adage, “two wrongs don’t make a right,” comes to mind. It was bad form when the MAGA squad did it, but I wouldn’t have expected more from them.
Dropped cable for Dish about 10 years ago. 6 or 7 years ago dropped Dish when it got as expensive as cable, just went to streaming. But now with the 7 or 8 different streaming services we have it’s as much as cable used to be. SMDH.
I can’t believe I remember this…

It gets really fuzzy after that, but I remember TVLand was 61, we also had ESPN2, SciFi, TCM, and E! But I don’t remember what channels those were.
His really early stuff is definitely country. Railroad Lady, Livingston, Brahma Fear are a few that come to mind. When he was first trying to get in the business he started in Nashville, I believe he and Jerry Jeff Walker were roommates for a while. But eventually his music kind of morphed into its own genre.
Is jimmy buffet country?
