There is a lot wrong with this episode, from the gratuitous sex scenes so the lack of story progress. I liked the reveal at the end where butcher's partner in crime turned out to just be the dark side of his conscience, and I somewhat liked the A-train's first real save scene, but that sex dungeon scene was atrocious and I wish they'd done something else with the time in that episode. Something that'd progress the plot more. How would you guys would change or redo the scenes from the episode if you were given the option? Would you have someone save Hughie from getting assaulted before it got worse, or would you take a scene out entirely, and if so what would you replace it with?
That's true, I suppose I do mix them up sometimes. It's incredibly easy to forget the terms are used differently since the definition of "develop" is "to evolve, to grow, to mature, and/or to advance".
There's also starlight going "no no no I am not gonna let you guys do this. I'm not gonna let Hughie do that. We are not doing that" and her making her eyes flicker only to never do anything.
Hughie also had some character development, the others seem to be struggling to have consistent development rn honestly

I'm pretty sure the reason she hates people is because she thinks they're all stupid and don't deserve saving. yeah she had the whole "I could've saved my grammy" thing, but I think they added that as a testament to her intelligence rather than as her motivation in general.

Agreed. Though Ashely did have a part in the situation I hesitate to blame her since it's clear she didn't know it wasn't consensual. She jumps back in surprise when Hughie begins shouting and begging for her to stop, and she looks nervous- like she thinks something is wrong and she should stop. Tek tells her to keep going and puts Hughie in a position where he cannot object to Tek encouraging Ashley or else Hughie would end up blowing his cover.
I don't think Ashley intended to do anything nonconsensual. So Imo, Tek's the only perpetrator here, Ashley fucked up but it wasn't intentional and I'd imagine that some part of her would be apologetic about it had she known. Hughie of course has every reason to be uncomfortable around Ashley is they ever run into each other again, I just don't think she's at fault here.

It's likely that butcher was just doing that to rile Gunpowder up, but It's also possible that the abuse may have been sexual to some degree. Plus, I doubt the show would show the sexual abuse if it had taken place anyway.
As for that second point, you're right, it's more than clear that Soldier Boy identifies as straight and is very disapproving of gay people, but homophobes secretly wanting to engage in homoerotic acts isn't anything new. I say we just leave the scene up to interpretation.

I, as a black girl who almost never sees interesting black women in superhero shows- let alone as villians- and really interested to see what all they do with her character.
As for A-train, I'm not sure. I do still think he's on Vought's side since he's to some degree willing to do Vought's bidding, but I also think he's too neutral right now to call a real antagonist.
