These do look very similar and httyd may have taken some inspiration from this in the second two movies I think it’s a slightly different font and there are some other distinctions. I’m not 100% sure it’s a different font but it looks like the tenacious d one has a slight bit more curve within the letters.

I think he didn’t have any strong feelings toward miles but wanted to help destroy the system and stick it to the man. I do think he liked miles just not like so much that it’s why he helped
It doesn’t really seem like a waste of time to try to unlock it with a key that’s supposed to work on most locks. It also would’ve made for a good callback if they did do it. Also, it technically says any lock “in” America so it could’ve been a funny loophole for them to use
