New York is going through another decline in my opinion. In terms of young fresh faces that are genuinely hip hop MCs in raw terms. After 50 Cent, The Beast Coast/Asap Mob/FB Zombies era was a resurgence and then after that Pop Smoke, 22Gz, Sheff G and them showed signs of a new era. After Pop Smoke died, people placed hope on Fivio but he didn’t carry through. Now the mainstream sound is saturated drill and its variants (Cash Cobain). It’s just a shame because New York is arguably the home of a valid big 3 goat list (Rakim, Big, Nas) amongst many more goats.

Kthot is crazy😭😭😭 y’all niggas still doin this? Reddit ain’t been the same since these two subs dragged the beef out

Yeah you definitely put me on. When you look at it as a metaphor your interpretation is spot on.

I hate to say it, but “Chargrill Masters” is not hitting the same way Charcoal Chicken used to hit. I know they switched owners but the Dianella store is such a staple I can’t stop going there😭

That’s dope I’ve bumped that song for years and as a fan of lyrical rap, I’ve never peeped it. You also should take into account that getting on your knees for marriage is more of a chivalrous act than a submissive act. He is also telling us he isn’t a gentleman and he won’t adhere to even the most common, socially accepted act of chivalry. The thing with layers in bars is, the first layer is always there therefore we cannot only ascribe one meaning to a bar. He follows it up with “sorry boo, yeah I lied to you but don’t you lie to me”. Interpret that how you want but he is clearly conveying a theme of toxic masculinity, pride and double standards. It is possible to have both connotations AND a recurring theme in one rhyme scheme. Especially when you know Yak lives what he raps. That’s what layered bars are you are only ascribing one layer to it which is contradictory in itself. “Unless you think only women can be submissive”. THAT assumption is where you completely lost me bruh. Also, BELIEVE you’re doing an analysis on a Kodak bar, he is more introspective than he gets credit for.

That almost goes without saying. Contrary to what social media leads people to believe, there are a plethora of women that consciously subject themselves to degradation. So to play devil’s advocate, it is not unfortunate in the slightest. Especially if you consider the good men that are hurt when these type of women choose up. A wise man once said “don’t save her, she don’t wanna be saved”.

Why y’all trynna save him you ain’t peep the username?😂😂

It is possible to interpret metaphors in the literal sense, that is literally what makes them metaphors.

As someone pointed out, it’s super iconic. Your tone is a bit… you could’ve just said “he has plenty of examples”, showed me at least one, and kept it pushing.

Bruh we really emoji policing on a hip hop subreddit😂😂😂😂. No Flocking dropped when I was FIFTEEN and brace your hands to clutch your pearls; I really like the song even tho I don’t bump it like that anymore. As a member of the African diaspora, it is a dope insight on the mindset of a Haitian youth living in an American ghetto, reservations aside. Reddit is really the home of moral superiority so I won’t point out the nuances in your response.

Future is problematic in the space of misogyny because he is seen as a “toxic idol” for young men who lack the real life experiences with women that he has. In reality, he is a man near or in his 40s with nearly 10 baby mothers that is creating broken families

“I ain’t getting on my knees bae, you bow down to me”. The funny thing about Kodak is, even though there are probably more lyrics I didn’t think of, you don’t need lyrics to understand that he literally exudes misogyny🤦🏿‍♂️

Why’s no one bringing up Skrillex🥹

I only found out about the hate for “Dark Times” and “Losers” recently. Both tracks resonated with me. Can anyone explain?

I think people are overlooking this answer maybe because they don’t want to seem like they’re glazing, but Kendrick’s covers are pretty dope from Section 80 all the way to Mr Morale. DAMN is the only one I kind of side eye

ALLA cover was iconic cos it came right after Yams’s death. It also fits the psychedelic feeling of the album really well imo

I know Steez Stans like to bag on Joey and try guilt him about Steelo’s death, but Joey undeniably had a star quality about him. His demeanour, his voice, his swag. Dude was meant to be a star you can see it in the pictures.

By the way guys, no real certified dude that is actually about it fans out over another man’s house and posts himself in said man’s basketball court shooting ugly azz jumpers after inheriting their beef. I’m not even American, but if this is how Canadian street dudes politic then let them hold another L.

Sexy: “You sure you don’t wanna scrap this song”

Drake : “nah”

It’s not looking good man he’s getting testified against. Hopefully homie drops them charges

I’m gonna count “Up To Something” cos of how long it was leaked before the release

Pac is Pac, Nas dropped Illmatic, 3 6 Mafia and their instrumentals are one of the most sampled in the world, Weezy created a generation of clones, 50 dropped Get Rich or Die Trying, Kanye innovated sampling and auto tune, Missy Elliot influenced a whole generation of women and men alike ,Lauryn dropped one of the best albums of whole time, Sosa created drill, Rakim was so influential to the point of Rocky being named after him and he literally changed how everyone rapped . Now imagine all the others I couldn’t think of to mention. Rocky is Rocky but cmon man let’s respect innovators of the game. I wasn’t talking bout lyricists or else why would I bring up Sosa? Rocky created trends and may have helped changed the game but he is nowhere near top 10 in terms of influence

Pac, Nas, Rakim, 3 6 Mafia, Chief Keef, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Kanye West AND more all want to have a word with you… we gotta stop these takes. As a Rocky Stan you gotta understand Rocky is a hip hop head and even he probably wouldn’t agree with your take
