I'm planning to do the Sawtooth Wilderness Loop in Idaho this summer. Does anyone know where you can park? Can I leave my car at the Grandjean Campground for 5 days?
This is a surprisingly tough choice. Thought for sure the GTS lights would be better - I'm a bit biased, I have a 981 GTS. But on a black car the red lights look good too. If I had to choose, I'd take the GTS lights, but it's close!
Agree with you on not liking the turbo wheels. I also have a 981 GTS - I would look at the 20” Carrera S wheels - they were an option on the 981 GTS and they look great imo
I would say you overpayed a bit in the current market, maybe a few ‘000. Especially for a PDK. But I don’t think it’s that far off.
You are forgetting that people make mistakes and some people are idiots. That is never going to change, especially by crashing into them. OP is not improving road etiquette by not avoiding eminently avoidable accidents, in fact he is doing the opposite.

I have a 981 Cayman GTS with the sports suspension. Great car - absolutely love it! But I would not daily a GTS with the sports suspension - it rides 20 mm lower (vs 10mm with PASM) and it is a firm suspension.
Not horrible, but I'll take the regular 930 over a slant nose any day of the week.
I bought the car 2 yrs ago and it only had 5k miles (a 2015). Like new. No problems at all so far.
Also PSE (standard on GTS) is a must have option IMO. The sound with 981 PSE is big part of the experience!
I was looking to buy a 981 Cayman S 2 years ago and ended up going with a 981 GTS. I think the GTS is worth the premium - especially with the right spec. Mine has MT, PTV, sports suspension, and the leather interior. It’s a fantastic drivers car. The sports suspension was a $0 option…it lowers the car by 20mm (vs 10mm for PASM). The lowered stance looks great too! The front end of the GTS also looks much better than the S.
Very little difference in design between the 981 and 718 in my opinion…definitely evolutionary. Both look nicer than the 987 to my eye.
Surprised to hear that you can get a 981 GTS for the same $ as a 987 R. I have a 981 GTS (MT, PTV, sports suspension) and it is a great drivers car. Also the interior is light years nicer than 987s. I also think the 981 GTS is the best sounding non GT car in the last 25 years. I’ve never driven 987R so can’t speak to the driving difference.
I have a MT 981 Cayman GTS - I think the long gearing issue is way overblown. You need to drive one. There is no way I would ever get a PDK on a 981 (or any Porsche) - it is so much more engaging with the MT.
I have a MT 981 Cayman GTS. It's not my daily, so I rarely use 6th gear (or 5th gear for that matter)....only if I'm on a highway for a while.
Although the gearing is long, especially 2nd, I don't mind it. Winding the gears out in this car sound incredible, especially with PSE. I think this is the best sounding non-GT Porsche of the past 25 years.
I will keep an open mind about the Cayman EV...but as an owner of a 981 Cayman GTS manual, I can say that the incredible sound and rowing the gears is a HUGE part of the fun of this car. Hard to see an EV rival this...but we'll see.
