I (the lit up light blue) am at war for colonial rights with the Decentralized power Oualata but I can't get there because of impassable terrain. To the west is another Decentralized power that someone else has a claim on so I can't even colonize it to get there.

I play it casually and actually enjoy it. I don't grind anymore, I just play around with the things that are fun and try new things every now and then.
You have to realize that things are not better later on, top tier is not the goal so have fun with the things you have access to now.
It's about splitting the state into many small pieces but I guess that doesn't matter much in the end, its just border gore :P
R5: I am playing as Scandinavia and colonized Senegal and Niger then let each of them go as colonial subjects instead. Now they are all colonizing Congo so it's just the three of us competing for it atm..
I wouldn't even mind giving them the colony but as far as I'm aware that's only available once it becomes a real state.
