State Park reservations have changed since you were a kid. Used to be able to reserve campsites a year in advance plus parks had a few non-reservable sites. That changed a few years ago. Now all campsites are reservable up to 120 days in advance. You might want to check state forest campgrounds. Their campsites are not reservable and there are many great ones, especially for tent campers. MN State Forest camping
What's mildly infuriating is posting pics of litter found blowing in the wind. 🤦🏻♂️
Bob Kroll was not Minneapolis Chief of Police, he was head of Minneapolis police union (which may have been a more powerful position).
OP is a definitely a bit over the top. After all, he/she is not the CMT dealing with unwashed people, OP is the client. Be clean and you’ll be fine. Seemed more a vent against Americans. Interesting that OP included “women problems” in his rant; I assume this refers to menstruation, which, as far as I know, occurs throughout the world. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm not sure the 120 day reservation system is the contributing factor. Was the year-ahead reservation system with a few non-reservable campsites better? Or is it due to the post-COVID boom in outdoor activities?
I'd highly recommend getting a pair of mesh screens for your car windows. They're effective in letting fresh air in and keeping the mosquitoes out. Even when cool, you'll have lots of condensation in the car if you don't crack a window. Plus a pair usually costs less than $15.
I reuse 1 liter bottles that my oj or lemonade came in. Easier to fit in the freezer and cooler.
Tell him (nicely) that too many people were parking in your driveway looking for a Perkins Restaurant. 🤷♂️
That's a really tough ask without knowing his gear and the kind of camping he does. As a person who has too much gear and has received the well-meaning but not appropriate camping gifts (enamel mugs, cotton clothing, etc.), I love to get gift cards to REI or a local outfitter.
Kruger by Wabasha has 18 drive-in sites, Snake Creek north of Whitewater WMA has 5 sites, and Money Creek east of Rushford Village has 8 sites.
Love MN State Parks in the Driftless (Whitewater, Beaver Creek, and Forestville). There are also good campgrounds in Richard Dorer State Forest. Wildcat Mountain State Park in Wisconsin is also great.
I second Indiana Dunes State Park. But there really isn't much seclusion within 3 hours of Chicago.
Excellent recommendation! I really like my Alps Lynx 2. Love the ease of use and two doors and vestibules. Plus the little extra length (the Lynx is 7' 6") helps keep your bag from touching tent walls.
Camping checklist is a great idea. I created a basic Google doc and then duplicate and modify the list to suit the trip. There are also Kitchen and Food headings. Almost all my kitchen stuff is already in a bin with small tackle box holding utensils, pot holders, dish soap, lighters, fire starters, etc.
Not sure when minimum wage was ever considered a living wage. 🤷🏻♂️
Tipping is crazy now
