Teaching requires a master's degree. Teachers are underpaid compared to their local peers with master's degrees. However, compared to people employed by nonprofits and other professions that aren't ultimately about selling stuff, their salaries are comparable, if not better-especially after 10+ years.

At the same time, many teaches not for the money. They accept lower salaries for work they love. It's the passion that is diminishing.
