There’s two parts to an option, the “what is it worth if I exercise it now”, which in this example and at $50 would be $50-$25 (the strike), so the intrinsic value of the option is actually $25 per share, but since you spent $8 per share it eats into that (hence the $17). There’s also the “but it could go up with the time I have left” part, which follows formulas and incorporates the Greeks and all that.
