Oooooo, I love all of these! I heard #2 in my head and laughed out loud😆 And the secret keepers concept is especially good--I hadn't looked at them that way, yet. Thank you for sharing your creativity with me, I'll use some of these!!❤️

That wasn't a context I had considered, thank you!! Whoa, gives it a whole new meaning😳

Username checks out. I wish I'd named this guy that😎👍 Thanks!

Your intuition is correct--the truth is, I've made super cute, non-reactionary art my whole life. This is the first time I've let go and created for the purest joy of it, or that my art style has created a connection with people (however or horrified or delighted that connection might be, haha). It's weirdly nice being in a personal headspace where, rather than dreading it, I welcome the negative reactions. I guess as an artist I crave connection in all its forms--but also, I really love seeing my art take on meaning through the eyes of others' perceptions. I wrote two blog entries exploring these things (https://www.gruesomecuties.com/blog), in case it piques your interest (but no pressure).

I love the Garbage Kids comparison (they grossed me out too, haha)! Thank you for taking the time to give me such a thorough answer. You added some cool insights to my weird journey as an artist right now😉

The fang-looking ones are fossilized shark teeth bought at the beach, but the ✧human-looking✧ ones, well...

(I bought acrylic resin ones that are cast from real human teeth, haha--but dental waste from a local dentist might be a cool source someday, just sayin')

Indeed, the impressions vary so much. That's why I'm always asking, "is it 🥹Awww, 🤢Ewww, or 😱Aaaa!?" I aim to create some kind of mixture, and it's actually really fascinating how some people will see cute, and others see something gross or just plain ugly (all reactions to the same piece!). And that's okay! It got a strong gut reaction from each person--one of the objectives of art. It's all interesting data for my ✨science✨ experiement, in a way, so thank you for your personal assessment!

☑️ Cute

Awesome. I hope you do more like it!

The big remaining steps are:

  1. Paint with acrylics
  2. Add UV resin drool/snot/tears/blood (some with holographic glitter)
  3. Add ✨sparkly✨ labels on the back

I am totally open to title ideas at this point. The weirder, the better!!😈💜

I dig this so much. It’s the teeth (I freaking love teeth), and also oddly realistic chaos. Yummy🥰

That is so kind, thank you! r/DarkArtwork is such a fun and insightful community to be a part of ❤️🦷 Hope you have a wonderful day, and thank you for brightening mine!

Tumbled quartz crystals are one of my favorite elements in my sculptures right now! They add such sparkle and weight to them. I like a hefty piece of little art.
