Make homeless encampments illegal unless they are within 100 meters of religious institutions, we don't tax churches because of their charity work, put their money where their mouth is. If they don't comply and don't offer charity, start taxing the religious organizations and start making them pay property tax.

Ooooh, I like this. We could call it the “Render Unto Caesar Bill”.

what's really impressive about her

Her truly-absolutely stank, beef-eating, kratos-tier, Gaston-level, un-ironically thicc, forearms?

As a cis man, I look at her and weep; futilely attempting to cover my face with my comparatively skinny, soy-jack twigs.

lol, if you’re paying 7k for a convertible in hawaii, you’re gonna be paying another 7k on the previous owners’ deferred maintenance within one month of buying it. Anything younger than 20 years and under $20k is going to be a scam.

If I sell it, I would buy a cheaper convertible of some sort.

how much do you think a “cheaper convertible” costs? Also, do you know what the maintenance price point for broken parts on a “cheap convertible” are? Are you planning on getting a used mustang soft top? Those are cheap, cheaply made, and broken into regularly because they scream “haole”

though more in home insurance than auto

In auto as well. I don’t remember which news podcast it was, Vox, NPR, or The Daily, but since the pandemic, road rage and reckless driving have shot up through roof.

The cost of the average vehicle sold now is north of 50k and has been for the last 4 years. New cars have sensors everywhere and that only became a thing since about 2019 so even a fender bender is going to run 10k to replace a bumper. More people, driving crappy, in expensive cars = more claims and higher premiums.

Any mistake of any kind could be grounds for the ticket to be tossed but that’s just my opinion

Holy shit, we got a full-on Trump caliber gunner here, folks!

Tell me you were asleep through all of Civ Pro without telling me you never went to law school.

That’s a huge error

Direction in and of itself isn’t a substantive issue.

I remember a pro se defendant tell a judge that he shouldn’t pay a ticket because the LEO had put the wrong make, model, and color of the vehicle down on the complaint. The judge asked him if he was driving the vehicle in question. The guy said “well yes?” Judge said “then what are you arguing?” And found for the state.

I’d bet that most judges aren’t going to take the error of a single letter as a reason to drop a complaint, there would have to be a more substantive issue. Clerical issues are often tolerated if they’re not substantive.

It is the 31st century and mankind is once again at war.

I can’t speak for native Hawaiians, but my aunties and uncles are happy I’m in their life, as while I never really intended to live here long term, once I got here I made sure to help and be a positive presence to people who came across my path and I’ve always found myself welcome in spaces I find myself.

Also. I came here before social media took over every aspect of people’s lives. My lived experience is that native Hawaiians don’t want people to “mistake aloha for weakness” — if you bring a humble attitude and work to make the islands a better place, you’ll get along fine with everyone. If you’re an entitled haole asshole, you’ll get cracks cuz the islands don’t want none of your bullshit.

Uhhhh geeze, Rick? the Tickets Please guy is uncut. Is this a Bob Barker reference or would that be too meta?

I would find a job on the mainland that would sponsor you to work there that also has positions available in Hawaii. Work there first, and then request a transfer to the Hawaii office after 3 years.

We can pay a less-than-livable wage to mainlanders who want to LARP for a few years in Hawaii and it’s less paperwork than hiring generic foreigners, so it’s an uphill battle unless you have a super niche, locally valuable skill.

What sorta stuff are you good at?

Kill it immediately. It’s a hammerhead worm.

You’ll have to change her out of state permit for an in state one since you are moving here, but it should function like a Hawaii learners permit until that point. Once she’s changed it, she’ll have to take a written test and then a road test. The road test is… difficult. Almost everyone fails it the first few times.

how are renters when it comes to rideshare income?

You’re asking do landlords accept that as sufficient income? Probably not— does your VA disability cover what you expect to pay in rent? They would be more likely to accept that as a steady form of income for the purposes of securing a rental. In the flip side— if you have a ton of cash in a bank account, that might help them feel better about renting to you. Landlords want to see that you can swing 3x the rent on your own and ride share can be hit or miss.

Source: people I know who do ride share as a job all do it outside of their ability to independently pay rent. I.e one guy owns a home and is retired, one guy already has a place he is renting while he had a stable job before transitioning into doing ride share, one lady has a part time job in addition to doing ride share, one guy’s partner makes the majority of the income while he does ride share, one lives with his parents.

and I’ve seen lawyers on billboards and stuff.

There are no billboards in Hawaii? And the market is pretty saturated. Richardson has been churning out lawyers like hotcakes for the last 10 years and the bigger firms import their own cycle of mainland lawyers fairly regularly.

The market for WT&E lawyers is pretty small here. Most people here lack the assets for a lawyer, those that do will use the same local law firm their grandfather used, and people who moved here with their assets will have their mainland lawyer write everything up. Do you have a local “in” to the field?

Josephus never wrote about the Christian Jesus. Every respectable scholar on the subject agrees that the quote attributed to Josephus was added in the late Middle Ages.

Tacitus literally says “yo, my guy, there are some weird cult members who refuse to do their civic duty and give offerings to the Pax Romana— in fact they flipping eat their god ritualistically and skulk around in cemeteries like creeps. They claim that we killed their god and that he also came back from the dead, but they are weird, weird people.”

Pliny the Elder talks about how Christians are a menace to civil society, but if they don’t cause a problem, don’t go out of your way to hassle them. If they do cause a problem, do your job as a magistrate and execute them— but give them a chance to repent, if they’ll take it

Hawai’i had nothing to do with it, otherwise he would still be on the outside.

This was the Federal Government coming in and taking care of our garbage because we no like make waves and prefer to let corruption fester ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Michigan has laws that mandate electoral districts not be gerrymandered.

It’s Wisconsin you have to worry about: 55% of the population votes democrat but somehow 70% of the state legislators are republicans 🤨

Not a full citation, but didn't Musk finagle a loan from the Saudi's to buy Twitter?

He's got to at least pretend to pay that back.

Context for everyone else: OP is holding $250,000 in his account to earn that $900 in interest

Does your partner have a skill in a field needed in Hilo? She’ll be supporting you both. For example is she a nurse? Hanging up your shingle in Hilo in a super niche field, with zero professional connections is going to be super rough.

Speaking frankly; what would entice anyone to take your services over the half-dozen other well-established lawyers already practicing in a what is an extremely small field? Hilo only has about 60,000 people in it. People who are lower income don’t have estate planners— or feel the need to pay someone to transfer their land to next of kin. Does this cause a lot of issues for kuleana parcels? Yes it does. But what does a culturally sensitive FOP haole know about convincing locals they should pay you to set up a will/trust? Why wouldn’t they call up one of the locally famous lawyers instead? Or go to the free legal aid society pop-up clinics?

Do you have any other skills?
