1) femur: the ball of the ball and socket joint is at the upper left. That nettles into the round socket in the second photo.
2) pelvic girdle, which consists of three fused bones; the bowl-like dip you can see along the lower left side, midway, is the acetabulum, the socket of the hip ball-and -socket joint.
3) a vertebra, possibly from the neck, but I can’t tell from this angle, although the presence near the other bones makes me think it’s probably from the lumbar region of the spine (the part of the back between the hips and the rib cage).
4) one of the sacral vertebrae, which are unusual among the bones of the spine in that they are fused to one another (and so are not flexible) and to the pelvic girdle (picture #2), and have come un-fused as the connective tissue rotted away. These are fused to provide better strength to the hind quarters, which allow greater speed (the front limbs are support, not speed, rear limbs do both).
You might think this would have been shut down at the first one; zero supervision…
At least he didn’t shoot her and/or the kids…
It might be CGI, but they do have shadows. It’s a cloudy day; the shadows are diffuse. I watched in slow-no and you can see them when the pieces are near the ground.
I’d like to add to this. The men who are reacting negatively to trans women are projecting their own insecurity about not being able “to tell,” and getting “tricked” into being aroused by someone with a penis (or by someone who formerly had one) because they are also homophobic.
This gets carried to an extreme in some cases, and has led to irrational, uncontrolled rage that has, tragically, led to violence and even death against trans women, especially those in the sex trade. There are still many people who sympathize with the murderers in these cases, under the guise that there is something so inherently wrong about a heterosexual male being surprised by the sight of a penis while he was aroused, that his reaction — no matter how violent — is somehow understandable. There is even an element of acceptance, along the lines of “well, of course…”, that the trans woman deserved it, rather than a sense of outrage that he didn’t just walk away if he wasn’t interested at that point.
And I’d like to also mention that it is more dangerous to be a woman in general, trans or otherwise, due to the violence inflicted by male humans.
Yet left the glass in the window intact…. Tornadoes are seriously weird.
This is what private equity firms do.. They purchase companies and strip them of their assets (not illegal – you can do whatever you want if you own it), sell what they can and provide bonuses to the stockholders. That’s how Mitt Romney got richer (inheritance gave him a boost).
We need to press our government for socialized healthcare.
Duh! People would complain that the plane had cellulite.
You are correct, but I want to add this:
We live in a pluralistic society. Your holiday isn’t necessarily the same as mine. Are you mad that they came to shop over Yom Kippur? Should restaurants close during the day during Ramadan?
One solution is to hire diverse employees, some of whom don’t mind working on your holidays (and you can cover theirs).
~~ while she was playing a game on her phone.
So she was having some “me”time?
~~After a while I sensed how unhappy she was about that.
Why do you play mind reader? This is learned behavior; you two are in a dance, and each knows their own steps. You can choose to stop participating in this. A mature partner doesn’t send smoke signals or vibes to control you. If she has something to say, she should think it over and voice her legitimate concerns calmly and reasonably, with an open mind to the possibility that you may see it differently.
~~one or two snarky comments about how I'm always staring into my laptop.
After she was staring into her phone…
The bottom line here is control. This isn’t about you writing or anything like that. It’s about her desire to control you and every situation she is in. This is her insecurity, and it is toxic. I strongly suggest you look for some reading material on this. Your public library is just the place to start.
Ask for the section on self-help books. You may learn a lot.
She needs to change, too, but that’s not something you can do. You just need to concentrate on you.
I’m not suggesting you end it with her. Counseling might help.
Last thing – here’s an affirmation for you: You are a good person who has the right to time alone, to pursue your interests, and to be happy.
Yes! They’ll help themselves to any food you have, even while you’re eating it. I’ve had this happen to me.
He should be arrested for reckless endangerment. Pulling a gun!?
TERRORISTS, call them terrorists! That’s what they are!
All of the above. I think it worked so well because they were all native and already living in the pile of damp leaves/dirt (whatever was on the leaves) when I scooped them up. I would empty it into a large container about once a year and collect the “soil” they made and add it to my potted plants, then return the non-decomposed stuff and critters to the terrarium. It was the best fertilizer! When I moved after six years, I returned them to the same spot I collected them.
I used to have a terrarium with decomposers. I just gathered some leaf litter from the ground under some trees, and fed it now and then with carrot peels and such. There were also a few centipedes and spiders in addition to the isopods and millipedes, etc. one day a kid gave me his dead hamster, which I placed on a styrofoam meat tray and set it in the terrarium, covered with more leaves and waited 6 months. It came out wonderfully! Completely articulated, but dirty. I picked the hair and debris off with curved forceps, but I didn’t want to disturb it so I didn’t bleach with hydrogen peroxide. I’ve had it for 15 years, still on the tray.
It is difficult to judge the size of a bird, but you’ve done fairly well. In fact, the difference in wingspan between a black vulture and a common raven is only 4 inches. That’s 2 inches per wing, which when you think about it, it’s not going to be noticeable when they’re flying. Most people don’t realize that ravens are the same size as red tail hawks.
You know that little cylindrical brush that you clean your reusable straw with? That's the image that comes to my mind when I think about how my long hair slides down into the drain: my hair, cleaning the drain pipe. Nope.
The hairdresser washing your hair is easily the worst part of any appointment
