To be brutally honest, I think you’re wrong! 50 years ago I think you would be dead on, but these days more and more composers are using tonality in their music again. It’s not purely diatonic but not everyone is writing serialist or atonal music.

I think you have a lot of preconceptions, but it is worth noting that the point of studying composition at conservatoire is that it’s a safe place to experiment. No one will stop you trying things out that are new to you, and people will happily play your music. If you go and say “I am a neoromantic composer and write melodic music” and then spend your four years writing just that sort of music you’re sort of wasting your time there! Plus if you’re attitude is that you’re interested in only certain types of music you may find it difficult to get a place on a course, because they’re looking for open minded people who will make the most of their opportunity.

Like with most creative jobs, it’s about graft and who you know. The good news is most people who are any good at their craft can make a career out of it but they have to sacrifice a lot of hours of their lives, network like crazy, say yes to every shitty opportunity, and live off peanuts for years. Most people also don’t have the heart to do this!

Depending on where you are, there is no dress code for the opera - these are long shows so wear something comfortable. When I was at conservatoire and went to the opera/symphony often I would wear jeans or chinos with a patterned shirt and a sweater

You can never tell just by looking at a material whether it contains asbestos. Asbestos fibres are microscopic. However, you can learn what materials could have asbestos and with other context clues decide whether it is worth testing the material

I think this could be worded better, but I do think it’s pretty clear that this is not “we trust you and we’re going to surveil you because if it” it is “we are watching you and now that you know this you are going to do the right thing”

It changes stage by stage a little but you would expect that to be honest, both in real life rallying people are different speeds over different stages but also as a player you are going to be relatively quicker or slower in certain areas than in others

I think it didn’t help that on the Sunday that they did not show the Sunday standings on the coverage. If the whole point of the rules is to make sunday more engaging why not bring our attention to it.

I disagree that it didn’t change strategies, I believe Evans went for a worse choice of tyres on Saturday knowing that no longer opening the road would hamper him so he wanted to have better tyres and road position for Sunday. Plus Evans continues to push through Sunday knowing more points were on offer and indeed he’s been rewarded as his gap to Neuville in the championship is less than it would have been on the old format. I think it can work, but the coverage needs to explain what is happening better

My hot take is that I think Anne’s is better than Gear Farm… and Barnecutts is better too
