Just thinking about this in "historical context", for lack of a better term. When the class released into 3rd edition (Complete Arcane, if memory serves (so would that be 3 or 3.5?)), I think it was very clear that Eldritch Blast was literally a game-changer. At the time, the idea of "all day" combat magic was not really a thing.

That said, I feel like that has become a norm. Scaling at-will magic of some sort is an established norm in D&D these days. So I wonder, what do you consider the Warlock's defining feature? Is it still EB? Is it the short rest based casting? Something else?
