Was at the show and the fookin killed it, just trying to find the setlist to see a couple songs I didn’t recognize
Dan Hornes tone from his Alembic bass on pretty much every Circles Around the Sun song. Since I’m mentioning Alembic I’ll throw in Phil Lesh too his tone is so smooth and buttery. Good example is MS 1/2 step uptown toodeloo live 9/3/77
I 100% second this statement and would recommend the wembley empire show (4/8/72). It’s Europe 72 volume 2 on streaming services. Really good long laid out jams from truckin, playin in the band, one of my absolute favorite dark stars, Cumberland blues, caution
Beautiful jam gets me every time and Phil doesn’t even remember playing it lol
Morning dew - Grateful Dead live at the Lyceum, London, 5/26/72
2/9/73
Some serious Jerry noodling at the beginning that gets ya going
Saw them last week in Jax and 10000% agree. Their eyes of the world and US blues had me JUMPING up and down it was incredible
“Ladies and gentleman” album specifically
Anything by Khruangbin and also circles around the sun. I recommend their “interludes for the dead” album but any of them will do the trick.
Also, “pedal steel guitar” by Will van horn
All very mellow and psychedelic
10000% go. Him and Billy strings are my two favorite live acts
Shakedown tends to be super fun. Definitely venue dependent for size but imagine there will be at least something. Probably 2 hours before you plan to go into the show is plenty of time
Grateful Dead - sing me back home - Veneta Oregon 8/27/72
Yes. Walking has one of my favorite guitar solos ever
Incorrect. If I couldn’t go to a show I wouldn’t want to make money off of it. I would just want my money back and to break even and help someone enjoy the show in my place. That’s why I love the website cash or trade. You can’t up charge for ticket resale, can only charge face value. Not all shows are available on there, kinda geared towards jam band acts but other acts do pop up there occasionally
Yes bc I would sell at face value and not up charge. Scalping is deplorable
Circles around the sun is a bit more mellow but have some pretty funky disco space grooves that get real psychedelic
Jackson MS was earlier in the week, 5/17 was Jacksonville FL. I’m only asking bc I was there and it was an absolute killer show and can’t remember what song they opened with and it’s been bothering me since Friday hahaha. The encore was after sunrise which they’ve been doing and they added a US blues to close it out which was incredible. But the opener song with grateful shred eludes me
This is more ska than pure reggae but tunnel vision is pretty kickass and mellow
Rebel Souljahz.
J Boog
EB40
Big Mountain
Going there in August and thinking of proposing there as well. Any recs on pretty/ romantic spots to do it?
Missouri Breaks (1976)
Incredible western movie with Marlon Brando Jack Nicholson and Randy Quaid. May be more popular than I think but I never hear it come up in discussions of western movies. Definitely a bit off beat with a funky psychedelic soundtrack and I absolutely love it
3 ninjas (1992)
One of my favorite movies of all time and is so nostalgic for me. Used to watch it every morning before school. Totally goofy and dripping with 90s nostalgia while actually being a pretty kickass movie. Sequels are actually pretty good too
Mac miller, Kevin gates, and EarthGang are the only good ones I’ve been too. Others were just 30-40 second of a song with the MC rapping part of a verse then the DJ hits the airhorn and goes to the next song. But Mac miller had a live band behind him and it was wildly good
First terrapin and estimated too. Love that show
I sit next to my office IT guy in my office and have pleasure of hearing his conversations with boomer employees that call for help with various IT issues. Most of the time it’s pretty straightforward and nothing crazy but the other day someone calls about an issue with Adobe and devolves into our IT guy walking this person through downloading and setting up our Authenticator app for outlook. He had to help them find the App Store on their phone, describe what the search bar looked like in the App Store, and how to download it. And this was after explaining 4 different times why we need an Authenticator app for security reasons. 45 minutes later I hear his phone get set on the desk and he lets out the biggest sigh I’ve heard in a while
One of mine as well! The fall 77 shows get overshadowed by May 77 a lot for obvious reasons but they’re so killer I listen to them a ton. And that’s so sick!! I’m still fairly new at bass so haven’t invested in a cool one yet but eventually I want to go Alembic. I saw circles two weeks ago and I was glued to Dan and his sound it was perfect, mixed wonderfully
Best recorded bass tone you've ever heard?
