I feel this. Although I will say, it’s a benefit to be able to remove yourself from untenable social interactions quickly. I think people like us who know that isolation see cracks very early. Now that I trust that insight life is much more peaceful. I wish the same for you.

Yeah that parent first boundary is crucial! It continues to surprise me how effective it is; I see evidence every day. More shocking? It’s not even hard. I assumed it was.

Being more open is a game changer for sure. If there’s one thing I carry as a “you’re succeeding at this parenting thing” touchstone, it’s that I’ve taught my kids the value of resilience by both example and talking about it.

Yeah the over saturation of opinions on parenting is maddening. I largely stay away from it and don’t have social media (well other than Reddit lol). It just makes it harder to sift through the bullshit.

I feel this! But I’m ok with being too eagle-eyed as the measure I need to walk back, you know? I tell myself “trust them” before responding…it helps remind me that my over cautiousness can come across as a lack of trust if I’m being rigid.

This is so relatable! My presence was treated as a consistent burden when I was at home, so I swing the pendulum pretty far in the “my actions show you matter and are wanted” direction at times, which does not always sit well with a very independent teen! Similar to the urge to protect you’re talking about.
