We haven't strived for fairness, El Salvadorean girls are still put against American girls in women's basketball, for example. We have just accepted that there are large unfair advantages. Recognition of trans is not stopping any such "strive for fairness".

It wouldn't, it's such an insignificant aspect of the greater unfairness in sports. The greatest hindrance to any aspiring athlete are just other competitors that happened to become taller or stronger, who were born into a family that could pay for a better teacher, better gear, and more training lessons. Not some random transgender person.

It's very telling that you say we should abolish gendered sports "where it's possible". Doing that would ensure that no woman would ever be able to compete with men their own height in basketball or any other sport. Are you really this blind to reality?
Chess is gendered because there many more men who play professional chess compared to women. There is no cognitive or other such differences, it's just difficult to win as a woman because of the sheer number of men. This makes sense in chess. But there are gendered sports that don't need to be. Height obviously isn't the only important factor in basketball, but I'm sure you can create a division that are based on other stuff as well, maybe testosterone or whatever, that make sense and doesn't necessarily have to be gendered.

Genetic differences between biological women, where and to what family you're born into, etc. Suddenly, when trans folks are involved, you all started caring about unfair advantages in sports when they have always existed and exist in a much, much greater abundance within the previously mentioned aspects.
I do think we should look into abolish gendered sports where it's possible. For basketball there could be a height-division and so on.

Those are all biological women, is it still fair? Some extremely few trans folks are nothing in comparison to pure ethnical differences. And let's not even go into the differences between if you're born into a rich vs. poor family and country.
