$1,500 mattress costs $200 to make....$1,300 profit off one mattress. Same thing with a $3,000 mattress...probably costs $300-400 to make.
Add in some pillows/sheets that are ridiculously marked up, protection plan, etc. and you're now up to $2,500 profit from one mattress. Sell 2-3 a week and you're golden.
Also, they have very few mattress in-stock (a few cheaper ones and the floor models) and, what I think is that they don't "purchase" the mattress from the supplier until it's sold in store. That's why it's a 1-2-3 week wait to actually get it as, obviously, the stores aren't big enough to keep that kind of stock.

Chevron is good for everyone and presidential immunity is really no different today than it was last week.
It's just a bunch of people getting pissy to get pissy with a mix of not knowing what they're talking about and a fine dose of falling for misinformation/fake outrage.
You not knowing what's going on and just following the "OMG THE SUPREME COURT DID A RULING!" on Twitter/Reddit is why nobody is out protesting.
No ruling from the Supreme Court this week has any bearing on anything outside of people getting pissed off over Tweets and not knowing what Chevron or presidential immunity is. Overturning Chevron is a good thing for EVERYONE and there's absolutely no difference in the presidential immunity ruling between last week and today.
Somehow people, again not knowing what the hell it is, thinks we just allowed presidents to commit murders or disregard posse comitatus and sick DEVGRU on anyone he wants. Again....it's just people seeing a tweet and flipping out over nothing.
We're just at a point where half the country gets pissy anytime the Supreme Court makes a ruling and the other half cheers it.
99% of which have no idea what the hell was ruled on.

You have quite a few of those "Original Mattress Factory" businesses around that make and sell the mattress right there.
I guess my thought would be that you're driving down the road in a city and BOOM...Mattress Firm....BOOM....Mattress Giant...BOOM Sleep Number all within 3-blocks.
Add that in with advertising, the fact that OMF's are selling "off-brand generic" compared to Serta, Sealy, etc. aka the big brands everyone knows.
Online has tried with the "mattress in a box" model but I'd venture a guess 75% or more of people want to actually try a mattress out first.
Ease of finding a store, brand names, advertising, etc. is probably the answer.
