MSN, RN - Nurse Educator / ICU

I’m an educator for my unit. May graduates start in the July cohort for residency, and those applications open in January, interviews start in February, and officially close in March, although positions are usually filled for the more popular units like ICU, ED, NICU, and L&D.

Born in Dallas, grew up in Omaha, college in Lincoln, and now I live in Fort Worth.

Dallas is to Omaha as Fort Worth is to Lincoln, just on a bigger scale and the stretch of freeway between the two is full of suburbs. Dallas has your larger companies with lots of fast-paced business people. Fort Worth has a slower-paced style of living, big college town, cowboy culture. I know lots of people who moved to Texas from Nebraska and had no issues adjusting. There is a lot to do here.

The rent is where you may struggle, but if you end up working in Rockwall, you may find some smaller areas nearby still being developed with something in your budget. Anything in Dallas proper at that price point won’t be safe. Also, traffic is going to be vastly different than Nebraska, although if you’re from California, you may be aware. There are lots of major freeways but getting to Rockwall still may be 1-2 hours of traffic, especially if you have to cross the bridge (I-30).

If it were me, I would look at Rowlett, Wylie, Nevada, and Farmersville. Terrell is a trek but you may have better luck with finding cheaper property and the ability to have animals. Anywhere from Dallas to McKinney along 75 is relatively safe and would have everything you would need, but may not be in your price point.

Come back 20 min later and act like nothing happened.

So important. It’s like training a dog: don’t reinforce negative behavior. Don’t bring up their negative behaviors, especially if they are possibly attention-seeking or manipulative. Act like it didn’t even affect you. If they apologize, accept their apology and move on. People know when they are being shitty.

I’m in Texas and we use both terms, but our order set says “insert in and out catheter.”

JP drain bulb popped off the tubing and hit me in the face. 😖

It was draining a purulent abscessed wound. 🤢

Ranger is the name of the 3M branded fluid warmer. It comes with its own tubing cartridge that heats so you can hang fluids or blood and warm it to 41°C before going into the patient. From my experience, it doesn’t do that great of a job unless the patient is just slightly hypothermic. 🥲

Only a doctor can determine if your heart rate is normal. I also do 30-60 minutes of cardio/day on the peloton but my average resting rate is in the 60s-70s, and never drops below 60 while asleep. My partner will drop to the 40s while he sleeps. There are many causes for bradycardia and athleticism is only one of them.

I love shifts like this. Not every shift, obviously. But it makes you realize that you truly do have someone’s life at your hands and one small assessment finding determined the trajectory of your shift.

Also, hope you were 1:1 that night because your other poor patient definitely got neglected!

During those time frames, you were likely active and had heart rate ranges from say, 60 to 105. It doesn’t constantly measure your heart rate but does so every few minutes so you have a variance in your data compared to 12:30am or so, when your heart rate was stable between 70 and 80ish.

I love her aesthetic but she is so out of touch with reality. She tries to seem so down to earth and relatable but you’re right, nothing makes sense about the trips back to California. I’ve always been so curious as to how they afford everything when her businesses don’t seem to be taking off.

There are different types of CT scans - plain ol’ CT, CT with angiogram, etc, and depending if it’s a head, abdomen/pelvis, extremity, etc. “Body scan” tells me it was likely more complex. Also, it sounds like the patient is not a US citizen so this may be a self-pay rate whereas yours may have been a negotiated rate with the insurance company.

It looks like a Lularoe shirt that I wanted so badly in 2013.

I absolutely adore my dog but the idea of bringing him wedding dress shopping à la Dani Austin just seems so weird. I’ll take him for quick trips to the drive thru or the local home improvement stores that allow pets inside but with the size of his bladder and his tendency to jump around and get excited, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near a dress that costs more than my mortgage.

I just switched from nights to days and you would be surprised at all the eyes and ears that exist. At one of our charge meetings, our manager mentioned something that had happened during a night shift that I hadn’t even known about and I worked that day.

I would just be up front with your manager and supervisor (especially if you have a night sup) and tell them your plans and make sure you are able to get a fair LOR. It’s better to be open about your plans instead of showing up one day and putting in your two weeks since you’ll be moving away to school soon. It’ll show you’re honest and motivated, not just someone who wants to ditch the bedside.

I used to belong to Lifetime and their pools were amazing. I did water yoga several times when battling an injury and had several people with disabilities in my class.

I have a 4/2 at around 1800sqft. The kitchen and living room are pretty small but I have a big primary bedroom. The other bedrooms are used as a guest bedroom, my office, and my home gym. My only regret is the small kitchen; the other floor plan I was looking at was 3/2 and had a den/study instead of the 4th bedroom and had a much larger kitchen, but the primary bedroom and bathroom were smaller.

Our policy is exactly this - PRN straight cath for retention x3 and then insert and keep the foley in place on the next. Some providers will even order straight caths x24 hours (q4-6 hours) before considering a foley.

OP are you sure this is what the investigation is going to be about? Seems trivial.

Fired? Do you have any tea? I don’t keep up with her but now I’m interested lol.

My mom texted me: “good morning and happy Memorial Day!” I am a 33 year old (alive) female who never served in the military. Uhhh, thanks, happy Memorial Day to you, too?

Whatever happened to her self-tan line?

Confirmed that Murray died by suicide. So many prayers for his family.

The tournament that he pulled out of is in my hometown and all of our local news sources are mentioning this, as well, and stating he did rehab for an alcohol addiction. Super sad all around, no matter what the cause.
