Just to be clear, i wasnt seriously suggesting that is the actual motivation of the Swedes. There is still some ambiguity regarding Su-35S' T-10 designation. From what i remember, a Sukhoi historian said Su-35BM was the designation for Su-35S for a little while early on before being dropped (and then S was added later), but BM was never used in T-10 designation. What the actual T-10 designation was for Su-35S seems to be a bit of a mystery still. But you are a lot closer with your guess than "Flanker Guy" with T-10M lol.

Actually I see his post is even more of a mess now. First off there is some controversy about MiG-31K designation, it probably doesn't have a K but likely just Izdeliye designation. But I like to use MiG-31K to simplify things.
But, MiG-31K's were not upgraded from BM's, that would make no sense. All upgrades on BM are geared towards A-A improvements. Ability to carry R-77-1, R-73, R-37M, Zaslon upgrades, link upgrades, cockpit upgrades (especially for back seater/radar operator). MiG-31K doesn't carry any air to air weapons, even the gun is removed and so is all the pylon ability.
And 10 were just the initial batch, there are far more now but it has been a while since I have kept the list for MiG-31BM's and K's.
He isn't. MiG-31BM is the designation of the upgraded version, not an upgraded version of MiG-31BM.
