Baking soda can have a metallic taste that's noticeable in larger quantities... maybe it needs some acid to react to like a vinegar or tomatoes?

They are served as a starter ("entrée" in French) on all of the menus I saw, vs a main dish ("plat") - so you're in luck and could get a dish of 6 pretty reasonably! I liked them a lot at the café Le Saint-Régis on Île Saint-Louis.

I've definitely seen folks at formal weddings pull off fancy white blouses with formal skirts -- I think it's appropriate and classic. This dress is beautiful!

Following this! I am thinking an oversized dress shirt might be best based on what my crew likes and already has -- and then they could wear whatever leggings/bottoms are comfortable. Maybe with just a small cuff monogram so it's personalized but wouldn't be obviously "wedding merch" after the fact. Looking at The Shirt, something classic like Polo or Gap... would love any thoughts! (I thought Solid and Striped would be great but when did they get so $$$?)

yes!! OP you can have the shorter Catholic ceremony that is not a full Mass. My church made a big point of saying that this was just as valid/"holy." And since the groom and so many of our guests would not be Catholic/Christian/religious, it was in fact their recommendation to do this ceremony in order to be more inclusive. The ceremony will take ~30 min.

(This is under the assumption that you are comfortable getting married in a Catholic church at all. If not, sending good vibes for an open and productive heart-to-heart with your partner!)

yes - this is old world beautiful, super tasteful, and unique. Politely... F the naysayers :)

FWIW, my fiance brought our square save the dates to the post office for hand cancelling in Atlanta. They accepted them at the counter but absolutely did not hand cancel them... literal months later, they are still trickling in to recipients, with obvious messed up postmarks on all sides.

There's a chance he just didn't say the magic words properly, but pretty disappointing experience and especially with some larger USPS warehouse issues in this region, we're going to make sure our invitations hit all of the standard specs. Just not worth the risk for us.

Good idea! Near me, we've also had great luck with catering from the "nicer" supermarkets near us. Essentially giant trays of their prepared hot/cold foods, but they usually have a real catering department to help you out, can rent chafing dishes, etc.

Mine wasn’t super playful at first (like.. a year) but one of the entry points she really liked was toys with unpredictable bounces and/or loud squeaks. Like a lacrosse ball! Or a squeaky tennis ball! It’s super fun to see and she fetches things IF she’s interested in them. Good luck - he looks like such a good boy either way!

You mentioned Bitch Sesh but it’s still so great and this week they had Pat Regan on which was the perfect Las Cultch crossover - so good!

ha - yes i bet a lot of us have gotten into solo hiking/camping for ~ interesting ~ reasons!!

I don't have an Xmid 1 but love my Xmid2 with my Velcro cuddler dog. I'm a little taller than you and my dog is 40 lbs. Personally I think it's light enough that I would have no desire to downsize further.

Haven't stayed as a guest or been for a wedding but the property is lovely and views are amazing (was there in September). Thought the food was great when we went for dinner after a hike. Obviously tons to do from an outdoorsy perspective but there's not much else in the area.

The venue is on "Madeup St" so I think OP is way ahead of us ;)

Good luck! Heads up that for Catholic churches (as far as I know) you do still need to get your legal marriage license beforehand. "The ceremony cannot take place until you have obtained this license and presented it to the priest or deacon who will preside at your wedding."

You could also consider doing a private legal ceremony and then just getting your marriage blessed by a friendly priest? I don't know a ton about it but it's called "convalidation" in the Catholic church and could be a good option.

Like the other commenter said, generally the national parks are not dog friendly. (Such a bummer in so many places...) But Dead Horse Point **State** Park in Moab is pretty cool and dog-friendly!

If your fiance wants to get married in the Catholic Church, I think you'll really have to have a ceremony but of course you could keep that super super small...

I've found St. Thomas More in Decatur to be a really open and flexible parish. One of us is Catholic but hadn't been attending Mass at STM, the other is not religious at all... they didn't pry into any uncomfortable details and made everything pretty easy. (Just be prepared for a decent amount of paperwork and a few evenings of virtual wedding prep classes.)

The priest recommended we have a shortened service (not a full Mass) to be more welcoming to non-Catholic guests. Their wedding policies are here: https://files.ecatholic.com/33994/documents/2022/12/WeddingPolicies-1.pdf?t=1671571880000

Like others have said, you should not feel dumb asking because every place could be different! But what this probably means is an overall minimum spend of $5-7k (on food and beverage, including alcohol but not including tax or gratuity). If the food package is $65/person and you have 40 people, you'd be spending $2660 on food meaning you'd still have ~$2.5-4.5k leftover for alcohol or other add-ons like a fancy dessert or passed appetizers.

In my experience, the restaurants definitely will help you to figure out a realistic alcohol budget per person (which could be an open bar based on consumption, or could be a per person flat hourly cost), and can design a menu to help you hit that minimum. You'll be contractually obligated to pay the minimum no matter what. However, we're choosing to be a little conservative because our restauran'ts F&B minimum is at the top of our budget... it kinda stinks if there's money left over you could have spent on a big cake or something, but I'd rather have that than end up going over the minimum if my guests drink more than expected.

Not a restaurant manager but just went through this process for my rehearsal dinner / welcome drinks!

The funny / bummer part is that I wasn't aware it was a fit and flare when I purchased it! At the shop I went to, the salespeople pull gowns for you. So essentially they had a picture of the column dress I loved, and knew I was into column or maybe A-line... and it just looked so different in the bigger size!

Nayara Bocas del Toro (Panama, haven’t stayed there but the Nayara in Costa Rica is incredible so I think it’d be worth checking out!)
