Yeah feel free to holler when needed. I’ll do videos of finished mixes all the time too. I explain and show every single plugin/track/master so you can learn.

No, this is not true. And a track is either clipped or not. If it can be restored, it hasn't been clipped (I know what you mean though: you can go over the headroom and take the level back down as long as it hasn't been converted down to 24 or 16).

You can test this (clipping or not) and verify by some simple exporting. Add some 50 dB gain to each track to it's all glaringly red. Take master down so it's green. Export. If the tracks had been clipped (like it'd work in an analog realm), they export sound very distorted. It'll sound clean.

Well I mix and master for my living and have done that for 10 years and there’s been many masters without compressing anything on the master (especially if I get to do the mix). Limiter will be there of course.

Not necessarily (and you shouldn’t generalise it like that imho), unless we are talking about plugins reacting to input levels or dynamic plugins (compressor, analog emulations, saturators etc.) Purely digital plugins such as most EQs will sound the same with soloed track exports.

ppl will be able to say more if they can hear the sound and the issue.
it may, for example, be lacking a lot of highs and that's why it sounds off.
there's a few different freq ranges to be taken into account there affecting the tone.

TBH redlining channels does not clip them at all in a modern DAW thanks to the floating point audio engine ;)

Now levels going into input-sensitive plugins, or master going red, now that’s another thing…but channels going red does nothing per se in digital realm (whereas it saturates/clips the signal on an analog desk).

That’s a good way to work :)

Just don't go overboard with plugins or think that you need tons – a few good ones are often enough: clean digital EQ goes a really long way, and so does ear for dynamics.

Good EQ, good sounds, and good dynamics is enough to make it bang.
A good compressor or two, and a saturator.
Add a tasteful amount of reverb and delay, and that's mostly it!

No probs – it's pretty close anyways!

Thought I'd drop a comment or two as I was waiting for the last masters of the day to export (I mix and master for my living daily).

No probs at all!

Was exporting the last mixes/masters of the day (I mix and master for my living daily) and thought, heck, I'll drop a comment or two :)

• I'd take the growly part of the bass down just a hair (takes a lot of space)

• Kick could up for a better dynamic vibe

• Bass feels a bit undefined: I'd work on clean subs and _maybe_ cut the 120-150 range just a hair

• Snare could use a bit more of the very high sheen: a very steep high shelf from 5-6K and up would do (Q:5, 12 dB/oct, boost 3-4 dB, or something like that will open it up)

• So mids is good, but subs could be fatter and it could use a bit more high sheen and dynamics

Quick main points (critique only):

• bass is slightly "woofy", prob somewhere around 120-150 Hz

• the main thing the mix is lacking is high freq energy, so I'd get the percs, hats, etc up quite a bit to "open up" the song and bring the crisp sheen there in contrast to the bass side of things, which is nice

• kick could prob have a hair less presence / punch around 600-800 Hz (sticks out just a hair, but might be good once percs and highs are up)

“Don’t worry about the red. I’m a pro, and I can handle the red!” -Dave Pensado

But don’t you worry. I actually mix and master for my living fulltime and have been doing it for years. When doing some stuff like this, I don’t care if it hits the red (happens to us all when dabbling with ideas and you know it).

Spending time on a song doesn't equal the song being good or worthy of clinging to.
We will never run out of creativity. We can always start new songs.
Delete the shit that doesn't work, be ruthless about it, and work on the ones you really like.
Sometimes the best shit happens the fastest, while some songs that take forever aren't even worth finishing.
People will always like the best the songs you spent the least amount of time on and comment the least on the ones you put a lot of time into.

Rewards often don't come when you'd expect them to, or in the form you'd expect them to appear in.

When you think the whole music game is really difficult and the whole machinery is set to work against you, remember, it's not personal, and it's equally tough for others, too.

Spending tons on plugins and gear doesn't necessarily mean your music or you get any better. We often spend money on it for temporary satisfaction. A lot of the songs you like were made with a very modest setup.

Good ears and acoustics will go so much further in mixing than "magical" plugins you think you will need.

Cool I’m already standing outside my house waiting. You’ll see a guy holding a RX3 and that’s me. It’s starting to rain so pls hurry :D

^ Ah I see you're on the bus already! :D
(That pic is from one of my favorite movies ever, called Planes, Trains, and Automobiles)

A Bitwig quickie about breaks choppery.

Comparing stretching to the oldskool method of ping pong looping tails of drumsounds.

Been slightly avoiding the chopping because I’ve found it a bit arduous, but learning some sample loop start/end convenience has helped! So presenting a somewhat quick way to chop drums up. Any better ways, pls do comment :) While I’m Ableton Certified, I’m still learning Bitwig.

I wish it could do a slicing template like Ableton can – if anyone knows how to, pls let me know!
