Failure of “Green” party politics in Ireland. They are mostly not green, but red. They are social democrats pretending that the environment is their main issue, like Martin, O’Gorman, Cuffe, Ryan, Hourican etc. They should really be in the Labour Party. They annoy people by piddling around with trifling items like cycle lanes while ignoring EVs, (reducing tax breaks and subsidies ) and any big ticket items that could really make a difference. What progress has been made on offshore wind? None. They talk big about public transport but it is in absolute disarray in this country aside from certain affluent areas of Dublin. Farting about with buses and talking them up, while the truth of the service is it’s unreliable and dogshit. They lack communication skills, practical ability to get things done while in office, message discipline, party discipline and electoral nous. The doomerism out of Ryan over last few decades has also failed to materialise in peoples lives making them disbelieve all of it. If they made being green easier on peoples pockets they might find a warmer welcome.
No real impact on us here. Just a general improvement in cordiality and sanity in diplomatic relations. Starmer will stay a million miles away from any constitutional issues. Expect kind words and no constitutional action in the North. He will honestly attempt to get devolved institutions working but has other areas in which he will prioritize spending his political capital. Scottish independence is gone as a live issue for 10-15 years
