What are some good recommendations for someone to start out in jazz ?

Thanks! I just feel these two are beginner friendly songs for someone to get into Leprous.

Wasn’t there an album in which Mikael played the bass ? Was it Morningrise or Orchid ?

You should probably have given him more obvious hints. Some men aren’t programmed to read body language.

Leprous.

Listen to their songs Below and On Hold

It falls in the middle era. You should definitely checkout their first 3 albums( which is heavier than the congregation). They changed their sound starting with the Congregration. They again changed their sounds in their last two albums( towards more poppier sound)

Don’t forget the opening of For Whom the Bell Tolls! For years I thought it was a guitar riff

People who voted for this song as best only listened to the singles released

24 Light Years - Vola

Isolation Years - Opeth

Hope Leaves - Opeth

Out of Here - Leprous

On Hold - Leprous

Below - Leprous

If you are feeling adventurous then checkout:

Graves - Caligula’s Horse

Checkout the song Helvetesfonster by Ghost. Mikael played acoustic guitar in that song. It has similar vibes to Will o the Wisp

They are sleep sucking for sure. You won’t be able to fall asleep because of anxiety or horror

Agree with one of the comments above. Checkout Pain of Salvation particularly their albums Remedy Lane, In the passing Light of the Day, and The Perfect Element

Other bands worth checking out are:

Riverside(Second Life Syndrome, Out of Myself, Shrine of New Generation Slaves, LFaTM),

Katatonia(Last Fair Deal Gone Down, Tonight’s Decision, Great Cold Distance, Fall of Hearts)

Anathema (Judgement, A Natural Disaster, Distant Satellites, We’re Here Because We’re Here)

Antimatter (Leaving Eden, Planetary Confinement)

Pineapple Thief ( Your Wilderness, Magnolia)

and Opeth (Damnation)

That’s a good way to look at it! I always wondered what ))) meant
