the advantage is more stable fps because the fov is lower so the game renders less, anything else is placebo (models are wider? sure, but they also move faster)

if it had any basis in reality, why don't people try 6:5? or 1:1? or 3:2? or any other combination of ratios, and stretched those? because it's made up, they only use 4:3 or 5:4 because it's in the settings
