It wasn’t just current or at the time car performance that made him decide to join Ferrari. He wanted longer commitment from Mercedes which they weren’t willing to give him, Ferrari are along with a bump up in pay which must be nice. He has said occasionally in the past he’d like to race for Ferrari eventually if possible.
There’s also 2026 that I think he’d be more bothered about than 2025 anyway
