This doesn’t sound like the full story. I work in IT for a hospital and deal with patient data. We require a device be encrypted and have our security tools loaded on it (crowdstrike, tenable, zscaler, etc) if ANY work is done on it, including a personal device. However they should’ve (and most likely) communicated to you that all of this was necessary if work was going to be done on your personal device. That being said, they should release your device as long as it’s ensured that a personal device stays personal
